The show follows the story of high school sweethearts Toffee and Jonny, whose quintessential 1950s teen romance is cut short when Jonny becomes a zombie right before the prom. This cult classic evolves into a tongue-in-cheek message about tolerance when the students of Enrico Fermi High School campaign for “zombie rights.” Tomfoolery Theatre, a newly founded community theater group based in northern New Jersey, was formed to provide a creative outlet for young adults who look to the performing arts as a form of artistic expression. Allendale intersection to close next week
by John Koster The ground-breaking for the construction of a stoplight and intersection work at West Crescent Avenue and Myrtle Avenue in Allendale has been scheduled for Aug. 6. The intersection will be closed to all traffic for approximately 30 to 90 days. The project, which is being undertaken by Bergen County, was bid a few months ago and has now been approved. After meeting with the contractor, Zuccaro, Inc. of Garfield, Allendale Councilwoman Elizabeth White said the intersection and the adjacent portions of both roads will be closed for the duration of the project. If the project is not completed by the time school opens in September, new school bus routes will be employed, she added. “We have declared that if there is any way (the contractor) can open any part of the road in less than 90 days we would be eternally grateful,” White said at last week’s public meeting of the Allendale Borough Council. “We’re hoping that everything goes smoothly.” Some of the pressure may be reduced, Allendale Mayor Vince Barra and White concurred, because the county’s project to construct a bridge and expand Brookside Avenue in the Donnybrook Lane area of Allendale Ridgewood. has been postponed until September. Both projects are funded by the county and not by local taxes. While Allendale officials found the West Crescent - Myrtle closing unfortunate because it might interfere with school routes, council members said they did not wish to interfere with the county’s plans. The need for a traffic light at that intersection has been a matter of local comment for many years. White said that, if construction overlapped into the school schedule, those children who walk to school would be safe because there would be no traffic in the construction area, and the contractor would put up a temporary structure around the sidewalk to protect the children from any debris. In other business, Mayor Barra said the sump pump ordinance to first encourage and then mandate residents who report and detach illegal pump pumps, would likely be ready for introduction at the second council meeting in August, though the language had not yet been finalized. Mayor Barra said Allendale probably loses about $100,000 a year. Sewage charges are estimated at an average of about $900 per household, and eliminating illegal sump pumps could save the average resident about $200 a year in taxes, since the Northwest Bergen County Utility Authorities bills based on water flow, not on whether property owners have sump pumps. 800-1990, extension 1.
