Page 10 THE VILLADOM TIMES II • April 18, 2012 The Ridgewood Fourth of July Celebration Committee recently announced a “Born in New Jersey” theme for the 2012 celebration. This year, the committee will sponsor its annual celebration on Wednesday, July 4. The 2012 theme includes famous people who were born here, including Bruce Springsteen and Frank Sinatra; things invented here, such as Edison’s light bulb; and events that occurred here that gave new direction to our country, such as Washington Crossing the Delaware, and the Morristown encampment. Groups are encouraged to use this theme in the design of floats and other entries. The purpose of the Ridgewood Fourth of July Cel- ‘Born in New Jersey’ theme chosen for Fourth of July ebration is to celebrate the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the United States of America and its history, and to honor American patriots of all times. The Ridgewood Fourth of July Celebration began in 1910 when the local papers, the civic section of the Woman’s Club, and the Ridgewood Fire Department joined forces to create a “safe and sane” holiday with an emphasis on patriotism. This annual event has grown into one of the largest celebrations in the New York City area. For many years, local residents have named our parade and fireworks as best in an area poll. Additional information and answers to many frequently asked questions may be found on the Ridgewood Fourth of July Celebra- tion Committee’s website at www.ridgewoodjuly4th. org. The Ridgewood Fourth of July Celebration is organized by the Ridgewood Fourth of July Celebration, Inc., an all-volunteer community group. All aspects of this annual celebration, including fireworks, bands, evening performers, insurance, and assistance from police and fire personnel are funded by voluntary contributions from businesses and individuals. Members of the community are encouraged to be a part of the tradition by participating in the parade, becoming a financial supporter, or joining the committee.
