“Claudio Barile is one of the world’s great flutists and has been compared to Sir James Galway,” according to Manny Sosinsky, president of the Ridgewood Symphony Orchestra. “The RSO is honored to share the stage with a performer of this musical stature.” Born in Buenos Aires, Barile studied music at the Manuel de Falla Conservatory. As a teen, he joined the Philharmonic Orchestra of Buenos Aires as a piccolo player. Since 1984, he has served as the Philharmonic’s principal flutist, and has also frequently performed solos with the Opera Orchestra at the prestigious Teatro Colón. In addition, Barile has performed with the National Symphony of Argentina, Mexico’s OrchesClaudio Barile tra of the Americas, the Buenos Aires Music Ensemble, and the Berlin Philharmonic. As a sought after chamber musician, Barile has performed in Europe, Argentina, and the U.S. with the distinguished Argentinean chamber ensemble known as La Camerata Bariloche. Barile also helped establish the Buenos Aires Philharmonic Quintet, which won the Konex Award for Chamber Music in 2009. In the same year, Barile also won the Platinum Award for Wind Instruments for solo performance. The Ridgewood Symphony is among the largest volunteer symphonies in the country, with players from 48 different municipalities in Bergen, Passaic, and Rockland counties. The orchestra is directed by Arkady Leytush. The Ridgewood Police Department has filed a number of charges against a 19-year-old man after they executed a search warrant on his Mulberry Place premises. The man was charged with money laundering, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia after a police team led by Detective Christopher McDowell entered the Mulberry Place premises with a search warrant on March 20 and found a small quantity of marijuana, a large amount of cash, and a substantial amount of drug paraphernalia. The same suspect faces charges of making a terroristic threat in a separate incident. He posted bail and faces a court appearance. In an unrelated incident, Detective Douglas Williams arrested three juveniles for possession of marijuana at Ridgewood High School, transported them to Ridgewood Police Headquarters, and subsequently released them to the custody of their parents. On the same day, a Ridgewood High School student reported that his iPhone had been stolen from his gym locker. The matter is under investigation. J. KOSTER
