Midland Park September 26, 2012 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • Page 9 Use of all school and town fields in Midland Park will now be administered by the Recreation Coordinator under new guidelines recently adopted by the Midland Park Board of Recreation. The new field usage procedures have the blessing of the board of education and the mayor and council. Board of Recreation President Bob Sansone said the procedures were developed to assure that all groups have a clear understanding of how field use works and to avoid problems, which in turn affect the Recreation coordinator will administer field use children. “It’s for the benefit of the groups and organizations and to assure that the kids have time to use the facilities,” Sansone said. He said that having one point person in charge of assigning the fields will avoid double booking and assure that only qualified groups use them. “One person doing all the fields will result in less confusion. We want it to be fair for everybody,” he said. The policy sets a priority list to be followed by the coordinator. The board of education has first priority, followed by any recreation department-sponsored program. Travel teams with full Midland Park resident rosters and those with partial resident rosters (greater than 50 percent) are next. The partial roster teams must submit a certified roster before qualifying for use. Uniformed services groups, such as the police and fire departments are next, with organizations whose members all reside in Midland Park rounding out the list. Requests for facilities’ use must be made in writing and at least one week in advance. Rain dates will not be assigned automatically but must instead be requested after the originally-approved date has passed. The regulations apply for the use of the DePhillips Community Center as well, other than the parks and recreation department has first priority for its use to conduct its programming. The DePhillips Center is available to organizations from 3 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, Saturdays from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. and Sundays from 12 noon until 8 p.m. Town youth sports organizations, Scout groups and non-profit organizations may use the center. Sports associations are granted permission to use during their season. No individual usage of the center is allowed. A supervisor opens the center to the public year round from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult to participate in evening activities such as pick-up basketball and volleyball games, board games, ping pong, air hockey and other organized activities.
