Page 14 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • September 26, 2012 Obituaries Joseph G. Fanneli of Allendale, formerly of Midland Park, died Sept. 17. He was 88. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. Before retiring in 1984, he had been a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service in Park Ridge for 25 years. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Ridgewood, and a member of the Midland Park Knights of Columbus, Pope John XXIII Council #5498. He is survived by his sister Mildred Rieger and his brother-inlaw Julius, and his nephew John Rieger, all of Waldwick. Arrangements were made by the Olthuis Funeral Home in Midland Park. Molly B. Jackman, nee Bargh, of Wyckoff, formerly of Cape Charles, Virginia, died Sept. 16. She was 88. She was a member the Daughters of the American Revolution and many other organizations. She is survived by her children Edward F. Jackman of Wyckoff, William F. Jackman of Cheswick, Pennsylvania, and Robert L. Jackman of Annapolis, Maryland, six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and her brother Pickard Bargh of Virginia. She was predeceased by her husband Edward F. Jackman, and her siblings Agnes Leighty, and John Bargh. Arrangements were made by Browning-Forshay Funeral Home in Hawthorne. George Henry Nukk of Franklin Lakes, formerly of Mahwah, died Sept. 17. He was 74. He was U.S. National Guard veteran. He graduated from Brooklyn Poly Tech High School, where he was a football star. He earned a football scholarship to Cornell University, and graduated with a mechanical engineering degree in 1961. He went on to achieve his MBA in 1965 at Columbia University, and earned the designation of Licensed Professional Engineer. He was a member of the Theta Xi fraternity. His engineering career began in the food industry, and spanned the fields of construction materials and commercial roofing. He left corporate life in 1985 to found G&M Roofing of Hackensack. He retired in 2000. He is survived by his wife Dianne, his children Katherin Nukk-Freeman of Short Hills, Randall Nukk of Chicago, and Kristine Nukk of Hoboken, his stepchildren Paul and Neil, nine grand children, and his brother Dr. Alan Nukk. Vivian C. Pope, nee Grit, of Ramsey died Sept. 12. She was 66. She is survived by her children Billy, April, Robert, and Ryan, and seven grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Robert. Virgens of Melbourne, Florida and Greenwood Lake, New York, and formerly of Ridgewood, died Sept. 15. He was 90. He was a U.S. Merchant Marines in WWII and saw active duty in the U.S. Naval Reserve for the Korean Conflict. He retired after 20 years of service. He graduated from SUNY Maritime College in Fort Schuyler, New York. During his 50-year business career, he marketed valves to the industrial, petro-chemical, plumbing, heating, and air conditioning industries. He was past president of Mechanical Products Warehousing, Hickory Supply Corp., and the Virgens Agency. He was an associate member of the New Jersey Chapter of the American Society of Plumbing Engineers and past president of the New Jersey Sales Representative Association. He was past president of the Lakeside Community Club in Hewitt, Carlstadt Active Turners, and the New Jersey District Council Member of the American Turners. He was a member of the Indian River Kiwanis Club. He sponsored the Red Cross Blood Drive at the Indian River Colony Club. He was on the fundraising committee of the Brevard Red Cross and a Red Cross volunteer at the Patrick Air Force Base 45th Medical Facility, and a member of American Legion Post 163. He was past president of the Men’s Club of the Advent Lutheran Church in Melbourne, Florida. He was a member of the Ridgewood Fire Department and a life member of the Ridgewood Volunteer Fire Association. He served on the Ridgewood Board of Adjustment for seven years, where he held the positions of chairman and vice chairman. He is survived by his wife Ursula, his sons Bruce and Ray, his daughter-in-law Jane, and three grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sister Emilie. Marguerite “Van” Wolff of Ridgewood, formerly of Guttenberg, Franklin Lakes, North Haledon, and Fair Lawn, died Sept. 18. She was 86. She attended Eastern Christian Academy. She was employed at the Paterson Evening News in 1943, where she was a military reporter during World War II and a general assignment reporter afterward. In North Haledon, she was elected to the school board and served as president of the North Haledon Free Public Library. She served on the session of the First Presbyterian Church of North Haledon. She ran a public relations consulting business, specializing in corporate newsletters. She gave a series of popular cooking classes. Along with her husband, she opened the Wolff Gallery. She was a marketing executive at two pharmaceutical companies, Ivers-Lee and Olin Hunt, and an online gaming company, Cyber Warrior. She retired in 2004. She was a member of the Franklin Lakes Presbyterian Church. She is survived by her children Michael and Nancy, both of Manhattan, and David of Hawaii, three grandchildren, and her brother Peter. She was predeceased by her husband Lewis A. Wolff, and her brother Sidney. Victor E. Virgens Wyckoff Wanderings Toy store hosts benefit Tons of Toys in Wyckoff is holding a Paper Pumpkin and Ghost Sale at the store located at 315 Franklin Avenue. This fundraiser will benefit Saint Joseph’s Children’s Hospital in Paterson. Shoppers may purchase the paper pumpkins for $1 and ghosts for $5, and write or draw on them before they are hung on walls to decorate the store. This event will run through Oct. 31. Church hosts ‘Enchanted Evening’ Grace United Methodist Church, located at 555 Russell Avenue in Wyckoff, will host “An Enchanted Evening: The Tenors Onstage” on Saturday, Sept. 29. This 7:30 p.m. performance will feature tenors Theron Cromer, Frank Hughes, and Dominick Panfile. Pianist Peter Greco will be the accompanist. The program will begin with “Some Enchanted Evening” from “South Pacific,” and will include selections from Broadway, Neapolitan favorites, and tributes to Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra. Tickets may be purchased at the door for a suggested donation of $10 to $15. A reception with the performers will follow the concert. Retreat sets 47th Annual Country Fair The Eastern Christian Children’s Retreat’s 47th Annual Country Fair is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 29. The event will be held at the Wyckoff Municipal Field from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. In the event of rain, the fair will be held Oct. 6. The day will include rides, food, crafts, vendors, pumpkin painting, scarecrow-making, pony rides, games, entertainment, and more. DJ Bob Kern will provide great music and special activities for the children. This year, a new attraction will be featured: The Ultimate Bake Off.” This competition is for professional and home bakers. Professional bakers are invited to submit their cupcakes for judging. Home bakers will enter their best cookies. The panel of judges will sample the cupcakes and choose a winner. The community will have the opportunity to sample the cookies and cast their vote for the best cookies at the fair. Information for vendors, volunteers, and bakers is available through ECCR.
