On Sept. 29, the Township of Wyckoff will again participate in the United States Drug Enforcement Agency’s Operation Take Back, a program that allows residents to rid their homes of unused and expired medications. Prescription and over-thecounter medications may be dropped off at the Wyckoff Police Department at town hall, which is located at 340 Franklin Avenue. This month’s event will be conducted from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Over 500 pounds of unused and expired medications have been safely disposed from the previous collections. After the materials are collected at the local level, the DEA incinerates the medicine and the prescription container, protecting any personal information on the label. The police department reminds parents to be sure to inventory and secure all of the medication in their homes. Medications,

including pills and liquids, should not be stored in bathroom medicine cabinets or on kitchen counters where they are accessible to anyone who may visit the home. The Wyckoff Police Department reports a growing trend of intentional abuse of prescription drugs, in addition to alcohol, among teenagers. For more information about Operation Take Back, contact Detective Musto at (201) 891-2121. The Wyckoff Township Committee thanks residents who have participated in previous Operation Take Back events and requests that residents continue to recycle and participate in the township’s Nifty Fifty program to reduce the amount of household garbage placed at the curb by identifying recyclables to place in the user friendly single stream recycling curbside collection.
