Help honor America’s heroes The Midland Park Recreation Department encourages the community to thank U.S. military personnel for their service by participating in the American Red Cross Holiday Mail for Heroes campaign. To participate, visit the DePhillips Center at 50 Dairy Street and fill out a holiday card. These cards will be delivered to veterans, military families, and active duty service members at hospitals and installations around the world. The program is now under way and will conclude on Nov. 30. Members of the community may sign cards on weekdays from 3 to 9 p.m. and on Saturdays from 6 to 9 p.m. Church hosts financial seminar The Midland Park Christian Reformed Church located at 183 Godwin Avenue in Midland Park will host a financial management seminar on Saturday, Nov. 10 from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Ken Johnson, a certified financial planner for over 30 years, will lead this program. Drug Free NJ presents program The Midland Park Alliance and Elementary PTA invite parents, grandparents, and caregivers of children of any age to attend “The 15-Minute Child Break.” This program by the Partnership for a Drug-Free New Jersey will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 1 in the Highland School library, 31 Highland Avenue. This free one-hour interactive program includes tips for talking to kids about drugs and alcohol, the influence of media and pop culture, the effects of specific drugs, how to strengthen parenting skills, and how to make the most of “teachable moments.” For more information, contact Jayneburke@gmail.com. Scouts collect for Baby Bundles During the month of October, Midland Park Girl Scout Troops 4661 and 4695 will be accepting donations of new baby items for needy babies in the area. The following items are being collected: diapers, washcloths, towels, baby shampoo and lotion, diaper ointment and wipes, bottles, clothing, infant toys, pacifiers, blankets, and bibs. New and unused baby items may be dropped off at the following locations: Godwin School, 41 East Center Street; Highland School, 31 Highland Avenue; Midland Park High School, 250 Prospect Street; Midland Park Memorial Library, 250 Godwin Avenue; A&P, 137 Lake Street; Dunkin Donuts, 80 Godwin Avenue; and Starbucks, 85 Godwin Avenue. The Baby Bundles campaign is an all-out community effort to help local babies get a good start. Military Bridge, Shop-a-Thon set The Midland Park Public Education Foundation will host its annual Military Bridge and Shop-a-Thon on Thursday, Nov. 15. The event will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. at Midland Park High School located at 250 Prospect Street. The event will include card playing, special fundraisers, refreshments, and a “hallway of shops” featuring products from local businesses. Tickets for Military Bridge are $15 per person and $12 for seniors age 65 and older. Reservations are required. Please note that shopping and other special events will be open to non-card players. Rooney, a former mayor and deputy mayor, is a current member of the township committee. He previously served on the Wyckoff Zoning Board of Adjustment and as shade tree commissioner. He and his wife have four children. Rooney and his wife Hayley, a life-time Wyckoff resident, own Holland Hills Farm, an equestrian business in Mahwah. They have also created an endowment to support urban students at William Paterson University and are active in the Wyckoff Education Foundation, which raises money for enhanced public education at no additional cost to taxpayers. Rooney, a parishioner of Grace Methodist Church, is a New Jersey certified arborist and a member of the International Society of Arboriculture, and has been a New Jersey licensed real estate agent since 1985. Before joining Union Camp, Lambrix spent 10 years with Phillips Petroleum Company in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, where he was manager of external communications. Prior to his tenure at Phillips, Lambrix received a presidential appointment to the White House domestic policy staff as assistant director for energy and natural resources. He was also the founding chairman of a Washington, D.C. industry group called the Global Climate Coalition, and he currently serves on the board of trustees of the Nature Conservancy of New Jersey.
