Don Bosco Prep will honor alumni, parents, and friends at the Eleventh Annual President’s Gala, an evening of awards, dinner, and dancing to be held on Thursday, Oct. 25. This 6:30 p.m. event will be held at the Venetian in Garfield. Fr. James Heuser, SDB, director/president of Don Bosco Prep, will present the awards. The 2012 Humanitarian Award will be presented to the Inserra Family of Inserra Supermarkets. Inserra Supermarkets, Inc. is one of the largest supermarket chains in the metropolitan area, and was recently named

in the Top 10 privately held companies by NJBIZ for 2012. The ShopRite of Ramsey, proud supporter of many of the fundraising events of Don Bosco Prep, is one of the most successful stores in the chain. Carl Inserra Jr., Class of 2004, and Lars Larsen, Class of 2011, grandsons of Lawrence Inserra, are both alumni of Don Bosco Prep. Don Bosco Prep will present the 2012 Community Service Award to Franklin Lakes Mayor Frank Bivona. Bivona was elected to the Franklin Lakes Borough Council in 2009. After one year on the council, serving on the Finance and Administrative committees, he ran and was elected mayor, and began serving in 2011. After a 31-year finance career in New York City and throughout Europe, he retired four years ago. He was a senior executive primarily in the banking and bond insurance business. He has served on several charitable boards and committees, including Junior Achievement, the YMCA of Greater New York, and Oasis: A Haven for Women and Children, and has been active in his community. He graduated from Levittown Memorial High School and received a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Adelphi University. Roberto Clemente Jr. will receive Don Bosco Prep’s President’s Award for his work as chairman of the Roberto Clemente Foundation. As an individual, and in his work with various charities and business ventures, Clemente remains true to the core mission of helping those in need through fund raising, education, awareness, and humanitarian acts. Clemente assumed this role very early in his life shortly after the untimely death of his MLB Hall of Fame father, Roberto Clemente Sr. Since he became the spokesman for his family, the honoree has traveled around the world attending hundreds of fundraisers and dedication services in his father’s honor. Brother James Wiegand, SDB, Don Bosco Prep’s assistant varsity basketball coach and junior varsity tennis coach, will receive the Salesian Educator Award for his work serving youth for over five decades. Wellness Hike announced On Oct. 20, Mayor Frank Bivona will host a Wellness Hike at the Franklin Lakes Nature Preserve as part of the Mayor’s Wellness Campaign. The group will meet at the High Mountain Road entrance in North Haledon at 10 a.m. Under the direction of a Franklin Lakes Recreation fitness trainer, participants will hike along the newly groomed trails at this scenic 147-acre site. Library events announced The Franklin Lakes Public Library, 470 DeKorte Drive, offers programs for children and their parents. These programs are open to all. To register, call (201) 891-2224. On Oct. 16, students and parents will learn “How High School Students Can Find College Scholarship Money.” This program will begin at 7:15 p.m. Carolee Gravina from College Bound Guidance will present tips on how high school juniors can maximize acceptance opportunities and scholarship offers. Teens in grades six and up are invited to make a Halloween mask with local artist Jacque Benevento on Thursday, Oct. 25. The program will be held from 4 to 5 p.m. and all materials will be supplied. On Nov. 1, Lisa Paterson will present “The College Application Essay” from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Paterson will cover tips on how to write an essay that will stand out and what admissions teams look for. This program will be held form 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Library board to meet The Franklin Lakes Library Board of Trustees will meet on Monday, Oct. 15. The hall of fame inductees include Timothy Rose, Thomas Potenza, Joseph F. Kelly, James Fortescue, and U.S. Army Major Thomas Kennedy (posthumously). Rose is president and CEO of Flyte Tyme Worldwide Transportation in Mahwah and is a member of the Class of 1983. Flyte Tyme, with branch offices in Princeton, Stamford, Philadelphia, and Los Angeles, maintains a fleet of over 350 vehicles and was ranked the sixth largest limousine company in the United States by Limousine and Chauffeur Magazine in 2012. Potenza is the owner/founder of TechLink, an IT consulting and staffing company and a member of the Class of 1984. TechLink employs over 250 people and serves many Fortune 500 companies across the country. TechLink has offices in Mahwah and South Plainfield. Kelly is president, partner, and member of the board of directors of OTC Global Holdings, and member of the Class of 1989. Today, OTC Global Holdings is the largest liquidity provider for both the CME and ICE exchanges across all commodities. OTCGH owns and operates 18 firms with offices in Houston, New York, New Jersey, Chicago, Louisville, Florida, London, and Geneva.
