The Inserra ShopRite in Ramsey was cited by some residents who spoke as a place where they shopped at present and they looked forward to having the chance to shop in Wyckoff, although some also praised the quality of products offered at Stop & Shop. “We need something there. The parking lot looks terrible now,” Zisa said. “A lot of the rhetoric you’ve been hearing from Stop & Shop is probably motivated by the fear of competition, and not by what’s good for the town. . . It’s unfair to this applicant. Just say yes to the application and get it over with.” “I couldn’t think of a better spot for something like this,” resident Michael Tighe said. “The only thing that disappoints me is the length of time it takes. This is not like we’re cutting a virgin forest down to build there.” “It’s not like he wants to build a casino -- this is a supermarket,” said Margaret Fenell. She said ShopRite would be good for jobs, taxes, and the economy. Ray Farrington, who had served on Wyckoff boards in the past, said he wanted the application to go through, but was concerned that Wyckoff was not big enough for two large supermarkets. “I like the idea of there being two supermarkets in town,” said Glenn Van Tilburg, a long-time resident. “I want the application to go through. It is time to get it approved.”
