Detective Jost will discuss the recent thefts in the area and how Chamber members can help protect their businesses. The 7 p.m. meeting will be held at Franklin Lakes Borough Hall on DeKorte Drive. Auxiliary sets schedule, seeks vendors Jocelyn Jacks Kahn will present “Getting the Stuck Places in Your Life Moving Again” at the Franklin Lakes Branch of the Valley Hospital Auxiliary’s Oct. 15 meeting. Kahn has been practicing and teaching energy healing for over 20 years. She currently offers guided focusing sessions for individuals, and teaches focusing workshops at Zen Garland in Airmont, New York. The program will held at 10:30 a.m. at the ambulance corps building on Bender Court. The auxiliary will hold its Fifth Annual Pre-holiday Brunch & Boutique Shopping Extravaganza on Nov. 14. This event will feature more than 40 vendors of unique costume and handmade jewelry, children’s clothing and accessories, scarves, shawls, sweaters, belts, handbags, decorative home goods, and many one-of-a-kind items. Shopping will begin at 10 a.m. and brunch will be held at 10:30 a.m. All proceeds will go toward the auxiliary’s $1.5 million pledge. Tickets for this event are $30 and include brunch. Ramapo to host Distinguished Expert Series On Oct. 10, as part of the North Jersey Public Policy Network, Distinguished Expert Series, Ramapo High School will host Joel C. Cantor, Sc.D., director for State Health Policy at Rutgers University and professor in the Department of Public Policy at Rutgers University. Cantor will present “The Affordable Care Act: The Facts.” He will address the complex issues surrounding this legislation, including how the new law will impact individuals, families, the workplace, and Medicare. A question and answer session will follow. Lindy Washburn, a writer on health care policy will serve as moderator. On Oct. 17, Professor Lawrence Lessig, the director of the Edmond J. Safra Foundation Center for Ethics at Harvard University, will present “The Best Government Money Can Buy.” Lessig will outline the corrupting effects of money in politics, institutional corruption, and how it weakens the public trust in the wake of the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision. The professor will discuss how to take our government back and will answer questions. Lessig is a professor at Harvard Law School, and is the author of “Republic Lost.” These programs are free and will be held at Ramapo High School, 331 George Street in Franklin Lakes, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. All are welcome. Board of education to meet The Franklin Lakes Board of Education will meet on Tuesday, Oct. 9 at 8 p.m. The session will be held in the music room at Franklin Lakes Middle School, which is located at 755 Franklin Avenue. Church announces fall events The Franklin Lakes United Methodist Church will hold its semi-annual Rummage Sale on Friday, Oct. 5 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 6 from 9 a.m. to noon. The sale will feature reasonably priced collectibles, antiques, clothing, toys, household goods, baby items, bicycles, books, plants, jewelry, and more. Donations of items will be accepted at the church several days before the sale. Any unsold items will be donated to the needy. On Oct. 12, the church will host its annual Gala Dinner Dance and Special Auction at the Indian Trail Club at 830 Franklin Lake Road.
