Members of the community are asked to donate new or gently-used coats to help needy families. Coats may be brought to the main entrance of the Wyckoff YMCA, 691 Wyckoff Avenue in Wyckoff, throughout the month of November. Knights hold Wine Tasting The Saint Elizabeth Knights of Columbus in Wyckoff will sponsor a Wine Tasting at The Brick House Restaurant, 179 Godwin Avenue in Wyckoff, on Friday, Nov. 16. This 7 p.m. fundraiser will include a buffet style dinner, appetizers, dessert, and the opportunity to sample a variety of fine wines. The wines will also be available for purchase. Proceeds from the wine sale will benefit a variety of the Knights’ charitable activities. Tickets will be $55 per person in advance and $65 the week prior to the event. Zumba Glow Party benefit set Join the Wyckoff Y’s Zumba instructors on Nov. 16 for a fun-filled class that will set off an inner glow. The party will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m., and black lights and glow in the dark accents will add to the atmosphere. All are welcome. The price of admission is a non-perishable food item to help stock the pantry at a local food bank. The Wyckoff Y is located at 691 Wyckoff Avenue in Wyckoff. Call (201) 891-2081 for more information. Holiday Fair set The Wyckoff Reformed Church, located at 580 Wyckoff Avenue, will hold its annual Holiday Fair on Saturday, Nov. 17. The fair, which will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., will feature handmade items, consignment shopping, gifts, attic treasures, books, and CDs, gift baskets for all occasions. Those who attend may also purchase homemade desserts, soups, and breads, and stay for lunch. At 1 p.m., there will be an opportunity for attendees to bid on vacation home stays, sporting event tickets, gift certificates, donations from local businesses, and more. Prize baskets will also be available. Events for children will include games and a photos with Santa. School sets Military Bridge Night Wyckoff’s Sicomac School will host a Military Bridge Night on Wednesday, Nov. 14 at Ramapo High School, 331 George Street in Franklin Lakes. The evening will begin at 6:30 p.m. and will include basket prizes, a cash prize contest, food, and military bridge. Attendees need not know how to play. The cost is $5 per player. Moms lecture series announced The Wyckoff Family YMCA will present a series of informative lectures for mothers at the Y’s Lake House, 691 Wyckoff Avenue in Wyckoff. The programs begin at 11 a.m. and are open to all. The fee is $5, and refreshments will be provided. On Wednesday, Dec. 5, Irena Ventura, manager of the Emotional Well-Being Initiative of the Partnership for Maternal and Child Health of Northern New Jersey, will present a program about postpartum depression. Healthy feelings between mother and baby are important for the baby’s growth and the happiness of women. Learn about the important role reproductive hormones have on a mother’s emotional wellbeing, what to look out for, tips on selfcare for busy moms, and how to create a support network. Learn about “Eating Healthy Amid the Chaos” on Monday, Dec. 10. The Y’s in-house registered dietician, Nancy Cooper, RD, will present tips on dealing with eating on the run, picky eaters, and making fast, healthy meals kids will eat. Health program has new location, schedule The Wyckoff Health Program will be held on Tuesdays from noon to 3 p.m. in the Monroe Room at the Wyckoff Public Library at 200 Woodland Avenue. This room is on the lower level, and an elevator is available. The program will now be held twice a month. The dates will be posted on www.wyckoff-nj.com and e-mailed to all site registrants. Those who register an e-mail address at “site-registration” on the home page will receive updates when the schedule is posted. The following services are available: blood pressure monitoring, nutritional information (including diet consultation), cardiac risk factor information, osteoporosis risk identification, medication consultations, initial health referrals, and diabetes risk factor identification. A registered nurse conducts the sessions. This service is free to all Wyckoff adults, and appointments are not necessary. Corps seeks new members The Wyckoff Ambulance Corps provides free emergency medical care to the residents of Wyckoff 24-hours a day, seven-days a week. This all-volunteer organization is seeking new members age 18 or older who live or work in Wyckoff. Free training is provided. In order to become a certified emergency medical technician, an individual must complete 250 hours of coursework at the county training center in Paramus. After training is complete, there is a sixmonth probation period before a new EMT can become a full member. Members are required to volunteer for one 12-hour shift each week and one 36-hour weekend shift approximately every two months. Members work alongside a diverse group of individuals who are committed to helping the residents of Wyckoff.
