Discover pre-WWII Jewish life in Poland Images of cities and small towns in Poland captured on short documentaries and amateur films in the years leading up to the 1939 Nazi invasion will be screened at Temple Emanuel of North Jersey on Sunday, Nov. 18. This free 90minute program will begin at 2 p.m. The rare films, which range from three to 20 minutes in length, portray Jewish life in Warsaw, Lodz, Bialystok, Krakow, Vilna, Lvov, and four small towns before the destruction. Sisterhood sponsors Holiday Boutique The Barnert Temple Sisterhood will present its annual Holiday Boutique on Nov 18. This event will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the temple located at 747 Route 208 South in Franklin Lakes. Admission is free. Over 40 vendors will be selling a variety of merchandise, including jewelry, pottery, toys, handbags, accessories, Judaica, and more. Café Nosh will sell bagels, hot dogs, wraps, baked goods, and potato latkes. Visa and MasterCard will be accepted at the boutique. Parents invited to ‘Cawfy Tawk’ Sara Losch, MS Ed, director of Lifelong Learning at Barnert Temple Preschool and Family Center, and temple member/licensed clinical psychologist Peter Fishkin, Ph.D. will present “Cawfy Tawk,” a two-session set of informal talks for parents. The second Cawfy Talk conversation will be held at 9:15 a.m. on Dec. 3. Library events announced The Franklin Lakes Public Library, located at 470 DeKorte Drive, offers programs for adults. These programs are free open to all. Author Janice Davis will discuss her books, “A Kid, A Grownup & a Travel Bug” and “Friends, A Villa & A Travel Bug,” on Tuesday, Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. Davis will be available to sign copies of books from her Travel Bug series. On Nov. 14, Tom Hollerbach from Golden Years Real Solutions and Services will present “Easy Transitions: Cleaning Out, Selling Collectibles, Preparing, and Selling Homes” at 1 p.m. This program focuses on tips that help simplify life or prepare a home for sale. The Ashley Pettet Duo will perform on Sunday, Nov. 18 at 2 p.m. This jazz duo offers a fresh approach to wellknown jazz standards with a modern spin. Pettet has traveled nationally and internationally with her jazz duo and trio, and has performed on Broadway, national tours, movies, videos, commercials, radio, and television. Auxiliary sets Annual Shopping Benefit The Franklin Lakes Branch of the Valley Hospital Auxiliary will hold its Fifth Annual Pre-holiday Brunch & Boutique Shopping Extravaganza on Nov. 14. This event will feature more than 40 vendors of unique costume and handmade jewelry, children’s clothing and accessories, scarves, shawls, sweaters, belts, handbags, decorative home goods, and many one-of-a-kind items. Shopping will begin at 10 a.m., and brunch will be held at 10:30 a.m. All proceeds will go toward the auxiliary’s $1.5 million pledge for expansion of the Valley Hospital Breast Surgery Program at the Luckow Pavilion, which will include a dedicated mammography suite and ultrasound suite, and to support Valley Home Care’s Butterflies Program, a palliative care and hospice program for children. Free music downloads available Franklin Lakes Public Library has joined Freegal to offer access to songs from Sony Music’s catalog of legendary artists. Freegal will allow the Franklin Lakes Library to increase the size and diversity of its collection by offering
access to hundreds of thousands of songs. Under the terms of the agreement, registered cardholders of the Franklin Lakes Public Library may download a select number of Sony Music tracks in the MP3 format each month at no direct cost via www.franklinlakeslibrary.org. OEM offers newsletter to residents The Franklin Lakes Office of Emergency Management is offering a newsletter that includes information about the borough’s emergency management plan and Community Emergency Response Team training. Recreation department seeks volunteers Volunteers who are age 18 and older are needed by the Franklin Lakes Recreation Department to help out mornings and evenings at the center. Duties will include opening and closing the center, checking in members, registering new members, and providing basic information. Volunteers must be CPR and Rutgers certified.
