Employment workshop scheduled Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church’s Career Resources Ministry, in its continuing effort to provide help to people seeking employment, will present the second of a four-part series of workshops on Sunday, Nov. 18 at 1 p.m. The workshop will be held in the meeting room in the lower church and is open to anyone seeking employment and those who anticipate possible unemployment. Parish membership is not required. Workshops are presented by the Career Resources Ministry, whose members are dedicated to helping those seeking employment. Professionals in the field will present the workshop and will be on hand to give advice. Admission is free. The fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Ridgewood YMCA, 112 Oak Street in Ridgewood. The event will feature free health screenings, including eye health, foot, blood pressure, and blood sugar checks; fitness and BMI assessments; and other testing. Certified diabetes educators, dietitians, and other medical professionals will be available to discuss nutrition, weight loss, diabetic medications and supplies, physical activity, behavior change, complications, and signs and symptoms. Hourly educational seminars on nutrition and other related topics will be presented by various professionals in the field, including the Valley Hospital. Junior League to host 26th Festival of Trees In celebration of 80 years of service to Bergen County, the Junior League of Bergen County will host its 26th Festival of Trees, “A Festive Night in Black & White,” on Saturday, Nov. 17 from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Hackensack Golf Club, 880 Soldier Home Road in Oradell. Attire for the evening is black tie preferred. This event will include a cocktail hour, an auction, and a dinner program. Fall shred event coming up Wyckoff residents will have the opportunity to shred their personal paper documents at no charge on Saturday, Nov. 10 from 9 a.m. to noon. At noon, the shredded paper will be taken off-site to be recycled. Paper items to be shredded may be brought to the Wyckoff Department of Public Works Garage at 475 West Main Street (across from the Wyckoff Recycling Center). A video display will allow residents to witness the shredding of their documents. Please note: No paper with metal tabs, plastic bags, Xrays, or cardboard will be accepted. Residents who have cardboard may take it to the recycling/conservation center at 476 West Main Street. Last April, approximately 350 residents deposited their personal documents, which resulted in over 14,000 pounds of shredded paper. According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency, for every ton of paper that is recycled and redirected into post-consumer production, 17 trees are allowed to grow and are not required as raw material for the production of paper. Holiday Fair set The Wyckoff Reformed Church, located at 580 Wyckoff Avenue, will hold its annual Holiday Fair on Saturday, Nov. 17. The fair, which will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., will feature handmade items, consignment shopping, gifts, attic treasures, books, and CDs, gift baskets for all occasions. Those who attend may also purchase homemade desserts, soups, and breads, and stay for lunch. At 1 p.m., there will be an opportunity for attendees to bid on vacation home stays, sporting event tickets, gift certificates, donations from local businesses, and more. Prize baskets will also be available. Events for children will include games and a photos with Santa. Detective to address Chamber Detective Joseph Soto of the Wyckoff Police Department will address the Wyckoff Chamber of Commerce on Nov. 15.
