Each candidate will then meet with the Interview Committee for 40 minutes to answer seven predetermined questions, and, using numerical and ranking data, the committee will narrow down the group to the final two to three candidates. A committee of four board members will then interview the top two to three finalists who are put forward by the Interview Committee. Each candidate will meet with the school board’s Personnel Committee for 30 minutes to answer predetermined and/or standardized questions, and, using numerical evaluation sheets, the Personnel Committee will evaluate the final two or three candidates and submit them to the superintendent for consideration in making his selection. Any board members who were not involved in the process, but who wish to meet with the finalist prior to the appointment of the new principal by resolution, will have the opportunity to do so. Romano or his designee will check references, inquiring about past and present performance, nature, and fit, and the superintendent will prepare a written recommendation and then present one candidate to the full board of education for hire. Romano said he expects to hold candidate interviews in January and narrow the field of candidates to two or three by February.
