Midland Park May 23, 2012 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • Page 7 Midland Park school administrator Michael Healy will be retiring Sept. 1 to start a new career as a student teacher mentor at the college level and assistant football coach in an area high school. “I wanted to get involved in other areas I hadn’t done and do it at an age when I’d still have plenty of energy and time to do it,” said Healy, who has been with the Midland Park school district for 34 years, start- Healy to retire, pursue career at college level district. Healy will work with student teachers at his alma mater, William Paterson University, from which he had received his degree in elementary education. He has a master’s in administration and supervision from Seton Hall University. In Midland Park he has taught grades three through six, was the assistant principal for grades K-6 and 7-12, served as the high school athletic director for two years and coached football, wrestling and baseball. In those years, he said, he saw Midland Park change dramatically, while also remaining the same in many ways. Stressing the traditional nature of the town, he said he felt the board of education had a good grasp of what the community wanted from its schools and was able to deliver on those goals. He said he enjoyed most working at Godwin School because children change so quickly at that early age. He particularly prizes his trips to Friendly’s to reward students for good behavior, and second graders’ visits to the Senior Activities Center every month. ‘”They are nice traditions,” he said, adding that sixth graders’ interaction with senior citizens had also been a rewarding experience. Healy said after retirement he will continue working Saturdays at the Baseball Card Store, which he owns with partner Dave Lancaster, and perhaps “sneaking in an extra round of golf.” He and his wife of 38 years, Karen, have two daughters: Christine, who is a health and physical education teacher in Newark; and Karen, who is working in the travel industry. ‘(Healy’s) efforts to benefit Midland Park students, schools, and community have been noteworthy for more than three decades’ -Superintendent Marie Cirasella. ing as a practice teacher. “I’ve enjoyed every minute here: the opportunity to be in all three of the schools and the relationships that come with working with all age groups.
