May 16, 2012 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • Page 9 Franklin Lakes PBA and borough agree to new contract by Frank J. McMahon The Franklin Lakes Borough Council and the Policemen’s Benevolent Association Local 150 have agreed to a new three-year contract that will extend through Dec. 31, 2014. The agreement has been ratified by the PBA and approved by the borough council. The contract increases all sergeant’s and patrolman’s salary rates from year eight of service and above by one percent across the board as of Jan. 1 of each of the three years of the contract. The annual movement from year eight and above will continue as in the past. All steps below year eight of service will not be increased across the board, however, and the annual salary step movement below year eight will be extended to every 18 months during the life of the new contract. In 2014, the salary steps for all police officers with less than eight years of service will return to the current 12month intervals. The contract also contains a new salary guide for future hires, defined as those police officers hired after March 28, 2012, which will add three steps to the current salary schedule for those police officers with less than eight years of service. The current entry level salary and the rates for the first seven years of service will be retained, but salary rates for years eight, nine, and 10 have been added to the salary guide. The effect of the addition of these three steps is that, for new hires, it will now take 10 years to get to the same pay level as it would take current employees seven years to reach.
