Cornelius “Neil” Deleeuw of Wyckoff, formerly of Elmwood Park, died May 6. He was 82. He ad been employed by the U.S. Postal Service as a mail handler until his retirement in 1992. He is survived by his children Robert and Stephen, his siblings John, Eunice Mitchell, and May Froelich, and his grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife Catherine, his second wife Angelina (nee Zonca), and his son Neal. Arrangements were made by M. John Scanlan Funeral Home in Pompton Plains. Jamie A. Fessler of Franklin Lakes, formerly of California, died May 8. He was 63. He was a U.S. Marine Corps and Army veteran and served as an Army recruiter. He worked as a postal worker for the U.S. Postal Service in Franklin Lakes and Pompton Lakes for the last 13 years. He is survived by is his mother Carolyn Fessler of Franklin Lakes, his daughter Tammy Mathisen of Pennsylvania, two grandchildren, his sister Janet Compton of Vernon, and his companion Brenda Heydt. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. He earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering from New York University. Before retiring in 1983, he was an engineer with Western Union in Saddle River for more than 40 years. He was a member and former commander of American Legion Post 145 of Glen Rock. He was a parishioner of Saint Catharine R.C. Church in Glen Rock, where he was a member of the Association of Mature Parishioners and a recipient of the Saint Catharine Jubilee Award. He was a member of the Western Union Retired Employees Association. He is survived by his wife Ann M. He had worked as a gear cutter for Van Vlanderin Machine in Paterson. He attended Fairleigh Dickinson University. He worked at the Presto Lock Company in Garfield for 45 years as a tool and die maker and acted as a union shop steward. He had been a Little League Baseball coach and an assistant scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 31. He served as a recreation commissioner from 1991 to 2007 and as an usher at Saint Paul’s R.C. Church in Ramsey. He helped found the Ramsey Senior Center. He is survived by his wife Jean (Galka) Palmer, his children Diane Hill and Joe Palmer, four grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. She and her husband owned the Traffic Safety & Equipment Company in Mahwah for over 30 years. She had worked as a salesperson and as a promoter of antique shows in local churches. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She is survived by her son Robert and his wife Lou Anne, two grandsons, two step-granddaughters, and 10 great-grandchildren. The program allows students in grades one through six to polish their reading and public speaking skills by reading aloud to well-behaved therapy dogs. Students will be invited to read aloud for 10minute intervals, and must register to do so. The next Paws for Reading program will be held beginning at 4 p.m. on May 21. The borough council is waiting for the American Federation of State County and Municipal Employee union, which represents some of the non-police employees of the borough, to ratify its collective bargaining agreement with the borough, which will also include the switch of the borough’s health benefits provider from the state plan to the matching Gateway B-MED plan.
