Midland Park May 2, 2012 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • Page 7 Metro PCS received Midland Park Borough Council approval last week to co-locate on the cell tower at the DPW site on Greenwood Avenue. The council also approved expanding the equipment area allotted to the cell tower by 200 sq. ft. The 10-ft. by 20-ft. area is part of the DPW/Firehouse complex. Without the enlargement the companies would not have been able to locate there. Town’s cellular tower will have five locators “There will be no impact on the operations of the DPW and the fire department, and it will drive up the revenue generated by the tower,” said Borough Attorney Robert Regan. “The tower has been a good investment for the town.” Metro PCS will become the fifth locator on the borough-owned 150-ft. tower. The juveniles were released, and are to appear in family court. Sergeant Michael Powderley and Officer Thomas Bedoe assisted in the investigation. On April 19, as the result of a traffic stop, Officer Bedoe arrested a 19-year-old resident of Clifton on outstanding Borough Police Department Report warrants out of Clifton. Technology advancements since then have made it possible to accommodate the two additional locators. Borough Administrator Adddie Hannah said that the additional area will come from squaring off the existing yard. Safety and security fencing will be maintained. Once all co-locators are in place on the tower at the DPW site, the borough can expect to generate more than $200,000 a year. Verizon is now paying $47,159 on its lease; Sprint, $41,440, ATT, $42,746; and T-Mobile $30,000. Metro PCS Wireless of Hawthorne is paying $35,000 for the first year of its lease. Hannah also noted that Verizon will be replacing the dead evergreens that shield the equipment cabinet on Witte Drive in front of the firehouse. She said a company representative had asked for the release of escrow funds, and had agreed to replace the shrubs. “It was heaven sent,” said Hannah.
