Jean Therese O’Brien Burslem of Wyckoff died April 22. She was 82. She was a registered nurse and had worked at the Christian Health Care Center in Wyckoff. She was a parishioner of Saint Anthony’s R.C. Church in Hawthorne. She is survived by her husband Donald J. Burslem Sr., her children Barbara Hubbard of Waldwick, Maureen Stier of Wyckoff, John Perez of Key Largo, Florida, Donald J. Burslem Jr. of Wind Cap, Pennsylvania, Sheila Byrnes of North Haledon, Patricia Burslem-Ferranda of Hawthorne, and Kate Castellvi of Hawthorne, and 13 grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sister Barbara O’Brien Thomas. Arrangements were made by Browning-Forshay Funeral Home in Hawthorne. Memorial donations may be made to Christian Health Care Center, 301 Sicomac Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ 07481. Eugene Francis Ciocon of Franklin Lakes died April 20. He was 44. He was a surgical coordinator for the North Jersey Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgical Offices in Clifton. He was a parishioner of Most Blessed Sacrament R.C. Church in Franklin Lakes. He is survived by his wife Jesmary “Giselle” Ciocon (nee Demetillo), his parents Dr. Hermogenes and Celia Josefina (nee Cocjin) Ciocon, his siblings Dennis Ciocon, Christopher Ciocon, and David Ciocon, and his nephew and nieces Ethan, Emma, and Eva. Herrmann of Wyckoff, formerly of Hawthorne, died April 24. Before retiring in 1999, he had been an electrician with the Nabisco Company in Fair Lawn for 50 years. He was a parishioner of Saint Elizabeth’s R.C. Church in Wyckoff. He is survived by his wife Gloria (nee Picone), his daughter Tammy, his brother John, and nephew Richard. Arrangements were made by Vander Plaat Funeral Home in Wyckoff. Rhoda Reynolds of Midland Park, formerly of Westwood, died April 24. She was 59. She had earned her doctorate in management. She was an adjunct professor of English at William Paterson University, specializing in technical and business writing. She was a teacher for the summer Educational Opportunity Fund program. In 2011 she gave the keynote address to the Chi Alpha Epsilon Honor Society. She had belonged to the Westwood Reformed Church, the Ridgewood Christian Reformed Church, and Midland Park Christian Reformed Church. She is survived by her husband Bruce, her brother Bob Sloyer, four nieces, and a nephew. She was predeceased by her mother Helen Sloyer

She worked for many years for the Educational Opportunity Fund and the health services office at Ramapo College in Mahwah. She is survived by her children Ian Scott and Kieran Viola, both of River Vale and Erin Scott of Mahwah; her grandchildren Peyton, MacKinley, and Ava Scott, and Brady and William Viola, and adopted grandchild Roxy Menhaj. She was on the board of directors for the School of the New Moon in Mount Tremper, New York. O’Toole to speak New Jersey Senator Kevin O’Toole will address the Franklin Lakes Republican Club on Monday, May 7 at 7:45 p.m. The meeting will be held in the Bender Court Ambulance Corps Building. O’Toole will discuss key issues facing New Jersey, and key current legislative programs. A question and answer session will follow. The membership will discuss key local and county election programs. The Franklin Lakes Republican Club is a non-profit organization established to represent the Republican Party in Franklin Lakes. Memorial Day Parade set Pay tribute to the country’s fallen heroes at the annual Franklin Lakes Memorial Day Parade set for Monday, May 28 at 9 a.m. The parade will step off from Commerce Street and proceed down Franklin Avenue to Veterans’ Plaza for a ceremony commemorating U.S. military heroes. All military personnel are encouraged to participate. The famous Newark Firefighters Pipe Band will be marching with the Ramapo High School Band. Accompanying them will be this year’s Grand Marshal, Franklin Lakes resident Dan Leskanic, who served in the United States Air Force and won many awards and commendations including the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal (eight times), National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal. Military transport vehicles, representatives from the fire, ambulance, and police departments, “Field of Dreams,” Franklin Lakes Recreation teams, Municipal Alliance, Scouts, and several local and volunteer organizations will also be participating along with antique vehicles including five cars from the Hoogerheydes. Refreshments will be served. As part of the Mayor’s Wellness Program, a Community Bike-A-Thon sponsored by “Camp No Limits” will be held at the Municipal Field immediately following the ceremony. All Franklin Lakes children are invited to decorate their bicycles, participate in the parade, and join in the event. Artist exhibits at library Local artist Leslee Fetner will show her art work in the library’s gallery during the month of May. Fetner’s work includes watercolors, prints, and mixed media, and her work has been accepted into several juried shows. She has participated in solo and group shows, and has received several prizes including second prize in Salute to Women in the Arts Winterfest 2011. Fetner is a member of Salute to Women in the Arts and the Pascack Art Association, which she served as president from 2002-06. The library is located at 470 DeKorte Drive. Library hosts programs for adults The Franklin Lakes Public Library, located at 470 DeKorte Drive in Franklin Lakes, will host computer classes for adults during the month of May. The classes are free, but registration is required. Programs meet from 11 a.m. to noon. An introductory class on Ancestry.com Library Edition will be held May 18. The Ancestry Library Edition collection has approximately 4,000 databases including key collections such as U.S. Federal Census images and indexes. This class is open to Franklin Lakes residents only. On May 10, Facebook for Beginners will explore the social networking phenomenon.
