Midland Park residents are asked to be on the lookout for bags that were recently distributed and fill them with canned or dried packaged food, toiletries, paper supplies, baby food, etc. The filled bags should be placed on residents’ front steps or in another visible location. Scouts will pick up the bags on Saturday, March 31 between 9 a.m. and noon. The donated food will go to the Center for Food Action in Mahwah. Chamber offers scholarship The Midland Park Chamber of Commerce will award three $600 scholarships to high school seniors who plan to attend a two- or four-year college. Applicants must be Midland Park residents. The deadline for applications is May 1. Holy Week Services announced Midland Park United Methodist Church, located at 269 Godwin Avenue, has announced its Holy Week services. On April 1, the Sunday school children will lead the Palm Sunday celebration at 10 a.m. The congregation will commemorate the Last Supper of Jesus and his disciples with a Traditional Table of Twelve communion liturgy on Maundy Thursday, April 5 at 7:30 p.m. The Easter Sunday (April 8) service will be celebrated at 10 a.m. For more information, contact the church at (201) 445-3787. After school art program set Midland Park Recreation will offer an after school art program, Kidz Art, for children in grades one through eight. The program will meet on Mondays beginning April 30. Easter Egg Hunt planned Midland Park Recreation will hold an Easter Egg Hunt for Midland Park residents at Veterans Field on Saturday, March 31. Participants will be grouped by age. Children who are two and three years of age will hunt at 1 p.m.; participants who are four and five will hunt at 1:30 p.m.; and those who are six and seven will start at 2 p.m. Each child should bring a basket. Parents are encouraged to bring a camera for photos with the Easter Bunny. MPHS hosts Awareness Week 2012 The Midland Park High School PTA is hosting Awareness Week, March 26 through 30, at the high school, located at 250 Prospect Street. This year’s program, “Perspectives: Do You See What I See?” includes special assemblies, workshops, and activities for the students. The junior and senior classes will spend a day at The Bodies Exhibit and Dialog in the Dark in New York City. Studio offers pottery classes Wortenkdyke Pottery Studio, located in the historic railroad station at 211 Greenwood Avenue in Midland Park, will start its spring pottery classes on April 2. The 12week program will run until June 30. The studio offers intermediate and advanced classes for adults and programs for children. Casino trip offered to seniors The Northwest Bergen Regional Senior Center in Midland Park will host a trip to Bally’s Casino in Atlantic City on Wednesday, March 28. Area seniors age 60 and over are welcome to attend. The cost of this trip is $25 and includes a casino bonus of $25. All participants must have a rewards card from the casino or valid photo identification to receive the casino bonus. Please note that the casino reserves the right to change the bonus at any time.
