All are welcome to this free concert, which is being sponsored by the Friends of the Franklin Lakes Library. Seats will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Board of education to meet The Franklin Lakes Board of Education will meet on Tuesday, March 6 at 8 p.m. The meeting will be held in the music room at Franklin Lakes Middle School at 755 Franklin Avenue. Library hosts programs for adults The Franklin Lakes Public Library has scheduled a variety of programs for adults in March. These programs are free and do not require registration. Elder law attorney Dan Jurovic will present “Senior Scams and Elder Abuse” on Thursday, March 15 at 1 p.m. A question and answer session will follow. Parents of tweens and teens (children ages 10 through 20) are invited to “Step in or Step Aside” with Fern Weis of Your Family Matters on Tuesday, March 20 at 7 p.m. Weis will offer tips on when and how to intervene with a child’s challenges, and when to shift responsibility to the child. The workshop runs approximately 75 minutes. On March 27, Jamie Novak of HGTV and QVX fame will reveal her trademark, three-step system to organize and de-clutter. Novak, a home blogger for Martha Stewart’s “Whole Living,” will send the audience home with a plan and simple solutions for home organization challenges. The program will begin at 7 p.m. Borst Landscape and Design will offer a talk on “Prun- ing Pointers to Make You Look Like a Pro” on Thursday, March 29 at 7 p.m. Spring is just around the corner and pruning is an important part preparation for planting and a beautiful yard. Friends to host ‘Let’s Lego’ Franklin Lakes Public Library invites children in grades one through five to “Let’s Lego!” on Thursday, March 29 at 4 p.m. John H. from the Challenger Learning Center will offer ideas and a demonstration. Computer course offered to beginners Franklin Lakes Public Library will offer a Beginners’ Computer Class in four sessions beginning Wednesday, March 7. Residents are invited to learn the basics of how to use a personal computer. No experience is necessary. Classes will be held at 11 a.m. on March 7, 9, 21, and 23 on the second floor of the library located at 470 DeKorte Drive. Franklin Lakes residents may register now. Meek retrospective and sale set During the month of March, the Gallery at the Presbyterian Church at Franklin Lakes will host an Art Show and Sale in memory of Margaret D. Meek (1924-2011). Meek was born in Paterson and attended Eastside High School. She graduated from Newark State Teacher’s College (now Kean University), earning a bachelor’s of science degree in art education. She received a master’s in art education from Columbia University. She was employed as an art teacher and supervisor for the Passaic School system for 35 years. Meek retired early to pursue her own work in watercolor, drawing, and other media. She received numerous awards from both juried and outdoor shows in the area and her work hangs in many private collections. On March 24, a reception and sale of Meek’s work will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. A percentage of the proceeds from the sale will benefit the missions of PCFL. Attendees may view the extensive selections of works of art and enjoy refreshments. Admission to the reception and sale is free. All are welcome. The church is located at 730 Franklin Lake Road. Gallery hours are Tuesday - Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Lions host Wine Tasting Night The Franklin Lakes Lions Club will host a Night of Wine Tasting on Friday, March 30 at the Indian Trail Club in Franklin Lakes from 7 to 10 p.m. The evening will feature an array of select wines from the Wine Seller of Ridgewood, appetizers, a pasta station, buffet dinner, dessert, and coffee.
