In addition, she is a nonresident senior fellow at the Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C. From 1991 to 1993, Ravitch was assistant secretary of education and counselor to Secretary of Education Lamar Alexander in the administration of President George H.W. Bush. She was responsible for the Office of Educational Research and Improvement in the U.S. Department of Education. As assistant secretary, she led the federal effort to promote the creation of voluntary state and national academic standards. Ravitch shares a blog called Bridging Differences with Deborah Meier, hosted by Education Week. She also blogs for Politico.com/arena and the Huffington Post. Her arti- cles have appeared in many newspapers and magazines. The New Jersey Association of School Administrators is an organization of chief education officers and school administrators who lead school districts in New Jersey’s 21 counties. Lauren Schoen, Superintendent, Ramapo Indian Hills Regional High School District FLOW Notes Team hosts Classic Car Show The Indian Hills Ice Hockey Team will hold its 12th Annual Summer Classic Car Show on Saturday, June 30 at Indian Hills High School, 97 Yawpo Avenue in Oakland. Show hours will be 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and all vehicles are welcome. Vehicles will be judged and trophies awarded in stock and custom classes. Lauren Schoen, superintendent of the Ramapo Indian Hills Regional High School District, recently served as co-chair of the 30th Annual Spring Conference sponsored by the New Jersey Association of School Administrators and the New Jersey School Boards Association held last month in Atlantic City. The conference, held under the official theme, “Meeting Challenges with Confidence,” brought together chief education officers, school leaders, and school board members who shared concerns and valuable ideas with the guest speakers and numerous colleagues.
