Rosica exhibits ‘Doodle Art’ The artwork of John Rosica will be on display at the Franklin Lakes Public Library during June. For more than four decades, Rosica has been creating doodle art during business meetings, on airplanes, and during quiet times. Today, on advice of artists, his doodles have been enlarged many times and presented framed and numbered with each drawing limited to 20 signed copies. The art of doodles is Rosica’s third career. Beginning in the late 1950s, he began a 20-year career as an executive in the record industry. He was an executive at RCA, Paramount, and A&M Records in New York and Los Angeles before founding Rosica Public Relations in Ridgewood in 1980. Rosica recommended that his first client, Wally Famous Amos, adopt the little-known problem of adult functional illiteracy as his corporate cause. As a result, both Amos and his cause are “famous.” The library is located at 470 DeKorte Drive. Register for the Splash & Dash The Franklin Lakes Mayor’s Wellness Campaign, the Indian Trail Club, and the Wyckoff Family YMCA will sponsor the Third Annual Franklin Lakes Youth Splash
and Dash Biathlon on Saturday, Sept. 8 at 8 a.m. Athletes up to age 13 will compete in this swim/run event to be held at the Indian Trail Club at 830 Franklin Lake Road. The event’s focus is on participation rather than competition. This community-wide event is designed to promote health and wellness for children. Participants who are seven and under will compete in a 50-yard pool swim and half-mile run; eight- and nine-yearolds will swim 100 yards in pool and run one mile; those who are 10 and 11 will swim 200 yards in the pool and run 1.5 miles; and participants who are 12 and 13 will swim 400 yards in the lake and complete a two-mile run. All participants will receive a T-shirt and finisher medal. Prizes will be awarded to the top three participants at each age level and to the top three relay teams. The race will accommodate 175 participants. The individual registration fee is $50; the fee for relay teams is $65. Sponsorship opportunities are available. Call Nancy at (201) 891-2081 for registration and sponsorship information, or download forms at www.wyckoffymca.org. Proceeds will benefit both the Franklin Lakes Recreation Department and the Wyckoff Family YMCA. The Wyckoff Y will invest its proceeds towards future programming for Franklin Lakes families. Addresses must be clearly marked The Franklin Lakes Police Department reminds borough residents and business owners that they are required to have address numbers that are clearly displayed and visible from the roadway. This public safety measure helps to ensure the borough’s police, fire, and ambulance services can accurately identify buildings, and increase response time in the event of an emergency. Numbers should be posted on or adjacent to the doorway on the side of the building facing the road, or adjacent to the driveway, such as on a mailbox. Free music downloads available Franklin Lakes Public Library has joined Freegal to offer access to songs from Sony Music’s catalog of legendary artists. Freegal will allow the Franklin Lakes Library to increase the size and diversity of its collection by offering access to hundreds of thousands of songs. Under the terms of the agreement, registered cardholders of the Franklin Lakes Public Library may download a select number of Sony Music tracks in the MP3 format each month at no direct cost via www.franklinlakeslibrary.org. The library will underwrite the purchase of the music. For details, contact the library at (201) 891-2224. We welcome press releases from our readers. Items may be sent to editorial@villadom.com. Deadline is Wednesday at noon the week prior to publication.
