June 13, 2012 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • Page 17 Local citizens and dignitaries turned out in full force to celebrate the Wyckoff Public Library’s May dedication of its newly renovated and expanded facility. The crowd gathered in front of the reconstructed and modernized building at 200 Woodland Avenue, while the Saint Elizabeth’s Children’s Choir entertained with patriotic songs. Boy Scouts from Pack 309 and Troop 77 raised the flag and led the pledge of allegiance. Master of Ceremonies and Library Trustee Anthony Donato introduced Citizens, dignitaries celebrate library opening Library Director Mary Witherell and her staff, who manned the library’s temporary storefront location in the Wyckoff Shopping Center for 15 months while the work was under way. Alma Mader, a 42-year library board member and long-time treasurer, received a special recognition. Mader, was honored for keeping a firm hand on the library’s finances, and for being a driving force in saving the funds for the expansion. The ceremony included the laying of the 2012 cornerstone, and congratulatory remarks from Library Board President Vincent Antonacci and Wyckoff Mayor Christopher DePhillips. Officials held the ribbon cutting and opened the doors to guests, who flooded the exquisitely renovated building. The crowd was treated to performances by jugglers, balloon sculptors, a string and woodwind trio, and face painters. Festivities include a teen coffeehouse, and lunch served in the new Henk J. Shotmeyer meeting room. Library officials also announced the winners of the bookmark design contest: Coolidge School second grader Joey Carollo, Washington School fourth grader Jaid Green, and Eisenhower School sixth grader Sean Coughlin. The three winning entries were made into bookmarks and distributed to patrons on opening day. The contest drew 141 entries, which were on display in the new children’s room.
