Midland Park June 6, 2012 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • Page 3 The Midland Park Council last week introduced two ordinances appropriating funds for improvements to Greenwood Avenue and to the parking area adjacent to the NJ Transit bus station. The borough expects to complete the job all at once by putting together twoyears’ worth of grants for the paving and getting a third grant for the parking area. The work will be funded through NJ Department of Transportation grants from 2010 and 2011, plus $60,500 from the town’s capital improvement fund. The 2010 grant was $150,000, with $146,000 received in 2011. An additional $90,000 was unexpectedly allocated in mid-1011 for the park-and-ride area. Greenwood was totally reconstructed with NJDOT funds awarded in 1997 and 1998. At that time, the job was done in two phases because of the cost, since the project also included major drainage work. At the same time as the ordinances Greenwood Avenue work gets $386,000 in grants were introduced, the council approved seeking a proposal for the engineering work from the borough engineer, thus accelerating the project to meet the grant deadlines. The 2010 funds must be expended by October, 2012, according to Borough Clerk/Administrator Addie Hanna. The preliminary engineer’s estimate for the project is $365,000: $285,000 for the paving work and $80,000 for the commuter parking. Work will include repaving the street from Birch Street to the Wyckoff border and delineating and paving the commuter parking area adjacent to the bus station, which serves five bus lines. This area, available for resident-parking only for nine cars in its present condition, is unimproved and could be expanded to include some adjacent property. Greenwood Avenue is heavily traveled and serves as a connector link from Route 208. The successful applications were prepared by Capital Alternatives, the borough’s grant consultants. Patriotism appreciated Midland Park resident and tireless volunteer Lorraine DeLuca receives a plaque from Memorial Day ceremonies’ MC Charles Ryan in appreciation for chairing the annual Memorial Day observances for the past two years. DeLuca stepped up to the plate at the request of the late VFW Commander Hank Douma when the service organizations which had previously organized the traditional events could no longer do it.
