Mary Lou Conway of Midland Park, formerly of Wyckoff and Franklin Lakes, died May 24. She was 82. Before she retired, she taught for 14 years in California and for 26 years in the Wyckoff Public Schools. She was a parishioner of Saint Elizabeth’s R.C. Church in Wyckoff, and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels in Wyckoff. She is survived by her niece Anne Greer of Midland Park, and her nephews John Sanders of Plano, Texas, Patrick Sanders of Oakland, and Joseph Sanders of Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was predeceased by her siblings Sister Jane Conway, OP; Constance (Conway) Sanders; Sister Ann Marie Conway, OP; Daniel Conway; and her nephew Paul Sanders. Rose Mainardi, nee Stough, of Franklin Lakes died May 25. She was 81. She attended the University of Pennsylvania. She was a volunteer at Saint Joseph’s Hospital and the Franklin Lakes Library. She was a Eucharistic minister at Most Blessed Sacrament Church in Franklin Lakes. She is survived by her husband Andrew, her children Andrew, Stephen, Margaret (Peg), and Christopher, 11 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Julia B. Miele, nee Rotonelli, of Mahwah died May 23. She was 90. She is survived by her children Madeline, Bill, Carol, John, and Mary, and four grandchildren. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a graduate of Bucknell University. He worked for Bendix Corp., Bush Universal, and Western Union before opening a Sir Speedy Printing and Copying franchise in Wyckoff 38 years ago. He also owned a Sir Speedy in Mahwah for over 20 years. He was a Rotarian, a board member of Operation Mobilization and, for over 50 years, an active member of Hawthorne Gospel Church, where he served as head usher and as a member of various committees. She was a graduate of Trenton State College, and worked as a teacher and later as an elementary school librarian for the Radburn School in Fair Lawn for 33 years. She was a parishioner of Saint Anthony’s R.C. Church in Hawthorne. She is survived by her children Marisa Martell of Glen Rock and Janette Kreinberg of San Diego, California, five grandchildren, and her siblings Dominic Zambella of Mays Landing, Francis Zambella of Brick, Anna Demski of Pennington, and Angela “Babe” Phillips of Lexington, Kentucky. William “Bill” James Nigro of Denton, Texas, formerly of Upper Saddle River and Sedona, Arizona, died May 28. He was 83. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. Before retiring in 1993, he worked as a purchasing agent in packaging design development for Revlon in both New York City and Phoenix, Arizona. He was a member of the Saddle River Lions Club and was a volunteer with the Upper Saddle River Ambulance Squad for many years. He is survived by his wife of Margrit (nee Wildbrett), his children Karen Cavan, Edward Godek, Barbara Avagnano, and Charlotte Marggraff, seven grandchildren, and his siblings Doris and Richard Nigro. Kenneth Rago of Waldwick died May 29. He was 85. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a graduate of Rutgers School of Pharmacy, Class of 1949. Before retiring, he was the pharmacist at the Wyckoff Pharmacy for 34 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Holy Rosary Young Men’s Association in Passaic. Library announces party plans On June 11, the Franklin Lakes Public Library will host a Pre-Registration Party for the upcoming reading program. From 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., participants are invited to play Wii games and General Knowledge Jeopardy and win prizes. Refreshments will be served. No registration is required for the party. However, those who attend must be Franklin Lakes residents in grades six through 12 to sign up for the Summer Reading Program. Sign up online at franklinlakeslibrary.org under Calendar of Events, or at the Pre-Registration Party. Those who sign up for the program will be eligible to win a pair of AMC Golden Movie Passes. As an extra incentive to keep reading, participants who write a one paragraph book review will receive Library Bucks to spend at the Summer Reading Program. Friends offer free concert On June 10, the Genesis Ensemble will perform “Folk Music around the World” at the Franklin Lakes Library. The performance, directed by Beth Prins of NJHSA, will feature authentic world costumes and instruments. Woyce to discuss Jersey Shore Author and photographer Kevin Woyce will present a “History of the Jersey Shore” at the Franklin Lakes Public Library on Tuesday, June 5 at 7 p.m. Woyce will discuss the history of the Jersey Shore from the distant past of pirates and shipwrecks through the Golden Years. Learn how shore towns got their unusual names, why there is an elephantshaped building in Margate, and more. Woyce, a life-long resident of the Garden State, has been taking photographs at the shore for more than a dozen years. Admission is free. The library is at 470 DeKorte Drive. Computer classes offered The Franklin Lakes Public Library will offer computer classes for beginners on June 6, 8, 13, and 15 from 11 a.m. to noon.
