Wyckoff
Township accepts $50,000 grant for field work
by John Koster The Wyckoff Township Committee has accepted a $50,000 grant for turf and natural fields and field lights at the Pulis Field area. The grant from the Bergen County Open Space Municipal Park Improvement and Development Grant Program will cover synthetic turf on two fields, natural turf on another field, and lighting on six stanchions. Added parking will also be part of the package. The Wyckoff Planning Board had previously approved the plan after conferring with Spring Meadow residents who live in a mature citizens’ community nearby. Residents requested several changes to the plan, most of which were approved before the planning board voted the Pulis Field improvements in concept. The Wyckoff Township Committee also introduced a separate ordinance that will enable Wyckoff to apply for $150,000 in sewer improvements. This ordinance, if adopted by township committee vote on Aug. 7, will allow the township to apply for the $150,000 grant to Bergen County, but does not guarantee that the funding will be approved. The township committee, following up on a petition with more than 1,100 signatures, also introduced an ordinance to allow raffles in Wyckoff. The petition garnered twice as many signatures as legally required. If followed by an ordinance adoption, the ordinance change would then be placed on the ballot in the November general election. Wyckoff has traditionally banned all games of chance, but officials said that a demographic or social change in the electorate may have made this ban outmoded. There
was no opposition from the audience when the ordinance was introduced on July 17, and the vote to introduce the was unanimous and without debate.
