January 25, 2012 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • Page 19 Wyckoff Wanderings Newcomers to host events The Wyckoff Newcomers & Neighbors will host its Fourth Annual Couples Lodge Night and Paddle Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 11 at 7:30 p.m. at the Brookside Racquet Club in Allendale. The club will provide racquets and balls; no prior paddle experience is necessary. Indoor games and activities planned for those who do not choose to play paddle. Pizza will be served. Dance-a-Thon benefit set The Wyckoff Y will host its Second Annual Dance-a-Thon on Saturday, Feb. 4 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Y located at 691 Wyckoff Avenue. The event will benefit the Strong Kids Campaign. Various classes will be held throughout the day, beginning with yoga at 9 a.m. The day’s dance schedule includes Dancing Feet for children ages three through six at 10 a.m., jazz for all ages at 11 a.m., ballroom at noon, tap at 1 p.m., willPower & Grace® at 2 p.m., and Zumba® at 3 p.m. Following the classes, the Y will feature a grand finale performance featuring Richie Arthur and “Fast Forward” in concert at 4 p.m. There is a $10 minimum donation for each one-hour class and this includes concert admission. Seniors plan Saint Valentine’s Day luncheon The Wyckoff Seniors Club will host a Saint Valentine’s Day luncheon on Feb. 14. Temple offers preschool programs The Andrew Friedland Preschool at Temple Beth Rishon has openings in its Mommy and Me and Kindergarten Enrichment programs. Babies under one year old and a parent are invited to attend a Mommy and Me class on Wednesdays from 9 to 10:30 a.m. beginning Feb. 1. The class is free, but registration is required. On Feb. 7 and 8, a preview class of the temple’s extended day Enrichment Kindergarten program will be offered from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. The program is designed for children attending a half-day public school kindergarten class. At the preview, parents will have an opportunity to meet the school’s principal and hear about the program and enrollment options available in the fall, while children spend time in a class. Temple seeks volunteers Temple Beth Rishon is seeking volunteer to cook and serve dinner for the homeless shelter of Family Promise of Bergen County on Jan. 29. Volunteers are needed from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to prepare the meal in the temple kitchen, from 3 to 3:30 p.m. to deliver the food to the Hackensack shelter, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. to set up, and from 5 to 6:30 p.m. to serve and clean up at the shelter. Cohen (pictured), research professor of Jewish social policy at Hebrew Union College, on Feb. 5 at 9:45 a.m. Dr. Cohen, a sociologist of American Jewry and author, will discuss the trends that are impacting American Jewish life today. The program cost is $12 for members and $18 for non-members. The event includes a breakfast buffet. This program is sponsored by the Fred Emert Memorial Adult Education Fund.
