Explore Jewish assimilation and intermarriage Rabbi Joshua Cohen of Temple Emanuel of North Jersey will conduct a two-evening course on Jewish assimilation and intermarriage, “Survival in 21st Century America: Coping with Tough Questions and Fewer Answers,” on Tuesdays, Jan. 17 and 24, at 8 p.m. at the synagogue at 558 High Mountain Road. Recognizing the melting pot of societies and cultures that characterizes today’s America, the course will address questions like, “How do we balance living a Jewish life filled with values prescribed by the Torah with the successes of living in America? What is the best course of study and action for continued growth and success of families with one Jewish parent? Rabbi Cohen promises an open and free dialogue. On Feb. 9 at 4:15 p.m., children in kindergarten through grade two may attend Happy Heart Day and create a gift for someone special. Registration for Franklin Lakes residents is under way. Paws for Reading returns Franklin Lakes Public Library is pleased to announce that the Paws for Reading program will return to the library this winter. Meetings are held in the ambulance corps building on Bender Court. Learn how to make bracelets and necklaces with help from a beading expert on March 12. Beading Class with Cathy will begin at 7 p.m. Refreshments will be served. On April 9, an expert interior decorator will discuss design challenges. Lobo recently joined Stryker after nearly a decade at Johnson & Johnson, where he held a number of senior level leadership roles. In his new role, he has responsibilities for the company’s reconstructive, trauma, craniomaxillofacial, joint preservation, extremities, and orthobiologics business units. Lobo is a graduate of McGill University and received an MBA from the University of Toronto. He resides in Wyckoff. Shara earned an MBA and as a bachelor’s degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University. Prior to joining Lakeland Bancorp, Shara served as president and chief lending officer of TD Banknorth’s Mid-Atlantic Division, which included New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. Before TD Banknorth acquired Hudson United Bank, he served as executive vice president and senior loan officer of Hudson United Bancorp. He is also vice president of the board of trustees of the Boys and Girls Club of Paterson, assistant treasurer/secretary of the board of trustees of Chilton Memorial Hospital, a member of the board of directors of the Commerce and Industry Association of New Jersey, and a trustee of the New Jersey Banker’s Association. He and his family reside in Wyckoff. The annual awards presentation and dinner raises funds for student scholarships, faculty and student research opportunities, and campus capital projects.
