January 18, 2012 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • Page 19 Park Windmill Christmas tree collection continues The Midland Park Department of Public Works will continue its curbside collection of Christmas trees on the same days as the regular garbage collection: Mondays and Thursdays. The last day for Christmas tree disposal will be Jan. 30. Pre-registration for kindergarten set The Midland Park School District advises parents of prospective kindergarten entrants that pre-registration will be handled by phone from Feb. 13 through 16. To pre-register, parents should call (201) 445-5350 from 9:30 to 11 a.m. or from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Those with last names beginning with letters A through M should call either Monday or Wednesday. Those who have last names beginning with letters N through Z may call Tuesday or Thursday. At this time, parents will be scheduled for full registration and screening during the week of March 19. In order to be eligible for enrollment, children must be age five before Oct. 1, 2012. Electronic Recycling Drive aids MPTV program MPTV (Midland Park High School Broadcasting) is collecting consumer electronics. MPTV asks residents to help protect the environment by donating their used digital cell phones and other electronic devices. Donations of used electronics may be tax deductible and will be recycled in accordance with EPA regulations or refurbished and sold. Proceeds from the program will go toward funding MPTV. Items that will be collected include cell phones, digital cameras, radar detectors, laptop computers, digital video cameras, electronic book readers, inkjet cartridges, handheld game systems, MP3 players, and GPS devices. Used electronics may be dropped off in the main office of Midland Park High School, 250 Prospect Street. Program on knee pain offered The Northwest Bergen Regional Senior Center, located at 46-50 Center Street in Midland Park, will host orthopedic surgeon Dr. William Carney on Jan. 18 at 12:30 p.m. Dr. Carney will discuss the causes of knee pain, including arthritis of the knee. He will also address treatment options for knee pain, including physical therapy, cortisone treatment, synvisc, knee replacement, and much more. Area seniors age 60 and up are invited to attend. MPCE offers spring trips Midland Park Continuing Education is offering a variety of new trips this spring. Residents of Midland Park and the surrounding communities are welcome. Two trips to New York City theaters are planned. On March 22, theater-goers will see “Jersey Boys.” Tickets are $99. A trip to see “War Horse” is set for April 24. Tickets are $135 each. Both shows begin at 7 p.m. On March 4, there will be a day trip to the Philadelphia Flower Show. The fee is $77. Mardi Gras at Villa Roma will be featured on March 27. The day of food and entertainment is $69. On April 17, attendees will enjoy Italiana at Villa Roma in the Catskills. The cost for the outing is $69. Visit the Sands Casino in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania on May 6. The cost of this day trip is $39. A trip to the Albany Tulip Festival is set for May 12. Celebrate Dutch heritage and view the display of over 2,000 tulips. The fee is $79 per person. A 12-day tour of Spain and Portugal is set for March 17 through 28. A complete itinerary is available from the MPCE office. Visit Historic Boston from May 19 through 21. This three-day tour includes trips to Concord, Lexington, and a guided tour of Boston. Spend June 4 through 8 in Cape Cod. Tours of Hyannis, Sandwich, Martha’s Vineyard, and the Outer Cape are on the itinerary. From Aug. 20 through 24, tour Montreal and Quebec City. Beefsteak benefit set The Midland Park High School Athletic Boosters will host its Third Annual Beefsteak Dinner on Saturday, Jan. 28 at 7 p.m. at the Midland Park Firehouse at 45 Witte Drive. Music will be provided by the local band, “Nutz,” and DJ Gormley. Proceeds from the dinner benefit MPHS student-athletes. Register for Winter Story Time Registration for the Midland Park Public Library Story Time is under way in the chil- dren’s room. The following programs are available: Toddler Story Time on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. from Jan. 18 to Feb. 15, and Preschool Story Time on Thursdays at either 10:30 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. Jan. 19 through Feb. 16. Story Times are developmentally appropriate and encourage children to interact with books and express their creativity through open-ended craft activities. Toiletries collection under way A collection of toiletries for a shelter in Camden is under way at Winnie and Belle, 293 Godwin Avenue. Shop owner Mari Keating Schofield chose this shelter for women because it is the only one in the city with shower facilities.
