Last month the council members decided to advertise for resumes for several positions, including borough attorney, engineer, appraiser, prosecutor, public defender, and attorney and engineer for the planning board and the board of adjustment. The borough clerk issued a Request for Qualifications The Midland Park Borough Council is expected to select a new council member at its regular meeting on Jan. 26. The vacancy on the six-member council was created when Councilman Patrick “Bud” O’Hagan resigned to assume the mayor’s post on Jan. 5. The Republican Municipal County Committee, chaired by former Mayor J. William Van Dyke, has until Jan. 20 to submit to the council the names of three qualified residents for consideration. Van Dyke said he would forward the names to the borough clerk by week’s end. The council has Council vacancy ready to be filled an additional 15 days to select the finalist. If no decision is made by the council, the municipal committee makes the selection. “I’m happy to have such a great group of names to submit,” Van Dyke said. The person appointed will serve until the November election, when the one-year remaining in O’Hagan’s term will be filled by the electorate. The municipal committee is comprised of the elected county committee representatives from each voting district in the borough – a man and a woman from each. The council is expected to discuss the applications at its closed session meeting of Jan. 26 and make the appointments at its Feb. 9 meeting. “Our professionals have been with us for a long time. We wanted to review their credentials once again to justify the reason why we selected them and why we keep them serving the borough,” Mayor Patrick “Bud” O’Hagan explained. RFQs for the auditor’s position will be advertised in the summer, once the 2011 audit and other required reports are filed, according to Borough Clerk/Administrator Addie Hanna. She said that work on the 2012 budget had already started in October, that the 2011 audit and rollover for 2012 were already in progress, and the 2012 debt statement is due on Feb. 10, all tasks that could not have been turned over to a new auditor should the council have decided to make a change.
