Programs are available for children ages one through five. Rhyme time for children 12 to 30 months old and their caregivers will be held at 10:30 a.m. on March 5, 12, 19, and 26, and April 2 and 9. Children 30 months through three years and their caretakers may join Toddler Tales at 10:30 a.m. on March 9, 16, 23, and 30 and April 13. The Storytime Fun for Fours & Fives program is for children to attend independently. The program will be held at either 10:30 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. on March 8, 15, 22, and 29, and April 5 and 12. Y plans Annual Ladies Night Out The Wyckoff YMCA will host its 16th Annual Ladies Night Out on Thursday, March 8 at 6:30 p.m. The event will be held at Seasons Restaurant in Washington Township. Applications for scholarship contest available Applications for the New Jersey League of Municipalities Louis Bay II Future Leaders Scholarships applications are now available. High school juniors and seniors are invited to apply. Applicants will write an essay about “What My Mayor and Governing Body Do for Me.” Winners will receive awards of $1,000. The 500-word essay should focus on the responsibilities and importance of elected and volunteer civic officials in municipal government, and should raise awareness of municipal government in general. McSorley to discuss Suffragette Movement Historian Charles McSorley will present “Suffragette Movement: How Women Won the Vote” to the Woman’s Club of Wyckoff on Wednesday, Feb. 15. This program will be held at 1:45 p.m. at the clubhouse at 176 Wyckoff Avenue. The club will hold a meeting for members at 1 p.m. McSorley’s program, which is open to the public, will follow. He recently completed a Field Training Officers class to certify him in training new recruits. Ferreira, 24, is replacing a Wyckoff officer who retired Jan. 1. The new officer was raised in Woodcliff Lake and currently resides in Elmwood Park. He is a graduate of Don Bosco High School and later received a degree in architecture from the New Jersey Institute of Technology, completing his courses while he worked full-time as a police officer. Ferreira is a graduate of the Newark Police Academy and served as a Newark police officer until 2010, when manpower reductions took place in the city. He has worked as an emergency medical technician for the Jersey City Medical Center, and was a security officer for the State of New Jersey. “We interviewed a number of candidates and one rose to the top of the list quite clearly,” Wyckoff Township Committeeman Kevin Rooney said of Ferreira. “He has strong beliefs in God, spirit, and the law.” “He is a well educated, well spoken, personable individual who was selected during a highly competitive hiring process,” said Chief Fox. “He comes to Wyckoff with both police and emergency medical training, and will be assigned to patrol duties following a six week training program.” A large number of friends and relatives of both men attended the swearing-in ceremonies. In other business, the Wyckoff Township Committee approved the New Jersey State Fireman’s Application of Sean McGirr and the applications of junior members Joseph Alvarez and Patrick Alvarez. All three are members of the Wyckoff Volunteer Fire Department. The applications will allow them to collect insurance benefits, if needed. Have you filled out a “requester” form yet?
