Letters to the Editor
(continued from page 14) being of equal weight (e.g., one wife is as important as keeping hair short). I could say more, but space is limited. If a writer is going to opine on a topic, especially one involving such important matters as the Bible and the role of marriage in our society, it would be helpful if he or she used accurate information and/or was sufficiently educated in the subject matter. Merely reading the Bible multiple times in this case does not suffice. Joel S. Peters Mahwah Note: Mr. Peters teaches theology in a Catholic high school and holds a master’s degree from Immaculate Conception Seminary at Seton Hall University. Dear Editor: In recent article (published elsewhere), Wyckoff Mayor DePhillips stated that the Wyckoff Township Committee did not nominate Brian Scanlan for deputy mayor due, in part, to “persistent attacks by a vocal minority, which has supported (his) political campaign.” It appears that Mayor DePhillips was speaking on behalf of the vocal majority…the four members of the township committee who maintain partisan rule in Wyckoff. Clearly, they have failed to give Mr. Scanlan the respect and recognition he deserves. Despite Mr. Scanlan’s selfless contributions on the core issues of property taxes, protection of our town character, and maintaining good public services, he has not been appropriately acknowledged by his fellow committeemen. In the meantime, he continues to work toward a nonpartisan town government that operates with full transparency. Moreover, Mayor DePhillips and company are ignoring the vocal majority of voters who overwhelmingly reelected Mr. Scanlan for a second three-year term. Mr. Scanlan has been overlooked once again for the positions of deputy mayor and mayor, even though the citizens of Wyckoff spoke loud and clear at the polls. As one who voted for Brian Scanlan, I am surprised and very disappointed that he did not receive the acknowledgement of his fellow committeemen. It is clearly time for the people of Wyckoff to have a voice in who becomes our next mayor! Eileen Avia Wyckoff
