Lions hold Food Drive The Midland Park Lions Club will hold a Food Drive at the Midland Park A&P, 137 Lake Street, on Feb. 18 and 19 to benefit Center for Food Action in New Jersey. Lions will be collecting non-perishable food items from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The community is asked to be generous in assist those who are having difficulty in providing meals for themselves and their families. Auxiliary hosts Covered Dish Brunch The Midland Park Branch of the Valley Hospital Auxiliary will hold a Covered Dish Brunch on Wednesday, Feb. 8 at 10 a.m. at the Faith Reformed Church, 95 Prospect Street. Members are asked to bring an entrée, salad, or dessert to share with four to six people. At the meeting, merchant letters requesting a donated auction item for the May 8 Spring Fashion Show will be available and committee assignments will be announced. A Bakeless Bake Sale fundraiser will be held. No baking is required; just bring a donation. Library board plans meeting The Midland Park Memorial Library Board of Trustees will meet on Wednesday, Feb. 15 at 7:30 p.m. The meeting will be held at the library located at 250 Godwin Avenue. The meeting is open to the public. Comedy Night benefit set The Midland Park Children’s Love Fund will host a Comedy Night Fundraiser on Saturday, Feb. 11 at 7 p.m. The evening will feature Uncle Floyd Vivino, a pasta dinner, and dessert. This event is BYOB. Comedy Night will be held at Kennedy Hall at the Church of the Nativity, 315 Prospect Street. Tickets are $40 per person. The Midland Park Children’s Love Fund, Inc. is a nonprofit 501C3 charity organization. The group is dedicated to assisting Midland Park families with children who are facing financial or medical crisis. Lions seek summer campers The Midland Park Lions Club is seeking children and teens with blindness, visual impairments, and special needs for the club’s residential summer camp. This year’s session will be held from July 29 through Aug. 4, and Aug. 5 through 11. Camp Marcella, located in Rockaway, offers a true-tolife camping experience for children who otherwise would not have the opportunity to attend a summer camp. Midland Park Day at Seton Hall Midland Park Recreation will hold a “Midland Park Day” at Seton Hall’s Walsh Gymnasium on Saturday, Feb. 4. School board vacancies announced Three seats are up for election this year on the Midland
Park Board of Education. A full term on the board runs three years. Interested candidates have until 4 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 27 to file a nominating petition. The annual election is set for Tuesday, April 17 barring any formal changes. Prospective school board candidates can obtain a “School Board Candidate Kit” online at www.njsba.org. Published by the New Jersey School Boards Association, the kit includes a nominating petition, information about legal qualification for school board candidacy, and the role of the school board member. Information about the New Jersey School Ethics Act and important dates in the school election process are also included in the kit. Applications for preschool program available The Midland Park School District is now accepting applications for the 2012-13 integrated preschool program that is housed at Godwin School. The integrated preschool program incorporates the education of special education children with that of general education preschoolers, following general education curriculum standards. To be eligible, a general education child must be three or four years of age on or before Oct. 1, 2012. Children will attend either a morning (8:30 to 11 a.m.) or afternoon (12:20 to 2:50 p.m.) session five half-days a week in accordance with the Midland Park school calendar. Current students will have priority for program registration. Session assignment will be at the discretion of the district. Parents will be responsible for transportation. The annual tuition is $2,700. Each parent or guardian should bring his or her student’s birth certificate, copy of immunizations, and proof of residency. This program is only open to Midland Park residents.
