Those who attend this 11 a.m. class will learn how to create an account, search eBay listings, bid, and pay for items. Registration has begun. All are welcome. Board of education to meet The Franklin Lakes Board of Education will meet on Tuesday, Feb. 7 at 8 p.m. The meeting will be held in the music room at the Franklin Lakes Middle School, 755 Franklin Avenue. Seniors plan Florida trip The Franklin Lakes Seniors will host a seven day Holy Land Experience in Orlando, Florida May 6 through 12. The theme park is a re-creation of ancient Jerusalem, and includes street markets, temples, music, entertainment, and a reenactment of the life of Jesus. The trip will feature an Arabian Nights dinner show, and sight-seeing. The cost of the trip is $539 double occupancy, or $708 for a single. The trip is open to non-members. Board of education seeks candidates The Franklin Lakes Board of Education will have three vacancies in the April 17 school election. A full term on the school board runs for three years. Candidates must file a nominating petition specifying the term with the local school board to get their names on the ballot. The deadline to submit the nominating petition is 4 p.m. on Feb. 27. Prospective school board candidates may obtain a School Board Candidate Kit online at www.njsba.org. Pub- lished by the New Jersey School Boards Association, the kit includes nominating petition, information about legal qualifications for school board candidacy, and the role of the school board member. Information about the New Jersey School Ethics Act and important dates in the school election process are also included. Candidates should reserve Wednesday, March 28 at 7 p.m. for the PTA sponsored School Board Candidates’ Night. Raftery to discuss generational differences Anne Raftery will address the Valley Hospital Auxiliary on Monday, Feb. 27 at 10:30 a.m. at the Franklin Lakes Public Library, 470 DeKorte Drive. Raftery will discuss “Current Generational Differences in the United States,” covering profiles of four generations based on events they have experienced. Raftery is vice president of human resources for the Valley Health System. She is also a corporate director for employee development at Lee Hecht Harrison, and serves as chair of the York Street Project, which provides integrated housing, education, and child development services for homeless women and children to break the cycle of poverty for both generations. Woman’s Club announces programs The Woman’s Club of Franklin Lakes has set its schedule for the upcoming months. Meetings are held in the ambulance corps building on Bender Court. Learn how to make bracelets and necklaces with help from a beading expert on March 12. Beading Class with Cathy will begin at 7 p.m. Refreshments will be served. On April 9, an expert interior decorator will discuss design challenges. Design Dilemmas will begin at 7 p.m. Refreshments will be served. Library offers programs for teens The Advisory Council for the Community by Teens and for Teens will meet in the Franklin Lakes Library’s local history room on the first and third Wednesday of each month from 4:15 to 5:15 p.m. Franklin Lakes students in grades six through 12 who want to promote teen services in the library and organize community service programs locally or globally are invited. ACCT Teens have organized a community drive to collect items for Operation Smile, a not-for-profit medical services organization which provides free surgeries to repair cleft lip and cleft palates for children around the world. The Franklin Lakes Public Library is serving as a collection point for donations. The following donations are requested: 0.85 to 1.4 oz. shampoo (screw-on top only), small comb (no rat tails), new wash cloth, child size toothbrush (single pack), eight-pack box of crayons, thin 8 1/2 x 11” coloring books, small stuffed animals, 3x3 mirrors, small size toothpaste, and hotel bar size soap. Mediation group announces new hours The Practice Community at Franklin Lakes, a Buddhist practice and meditation sangha, will meet on Mondays from 7 to 9 p.m. and Fridays from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church at Franklin Lakes, 730 Franklin Lake Road.
