WEA Scholarship applications available Applications for The Wyckoff Education Association’s second annual scholarship for graduating high school seniors will be available on Feb. 13 at the Wyckoff public schools and on the WEA website, www.wyckoffwea.org. Through generous donations from WEA members, a fund has been established to provide two scholarships in the amount of $1,500 each. One scholarship will be awarded to a student who currently resides in Wyckoff and has attended school in the Wyckoff Public School District. The second scholarship will be presented to a senior who is the child of a current Wyckoff Education Association member. Eligible applicants must be planning to attend a technical school or institute of higher learning. Finalists will be chosen on the basis of academic achievement, extracurricular activities, leadership, and community service. Completed applications with all supporting documentation must be received at Eisenhower School, 344 Calvin Court, Wyckoff, by 3 p.m. on Monday, April 2. Wednesday registration date cancelled The Wyckoff Recreation Department will hold registration for its spring programs on one day only: Saturday, Feb. 11 from 9 to 11 a.m. in the Eisenhower Middle School cafeteria, on Calvin Court. The spring schedule includes a co-ed T-ball program for boys and girls in kindergarten, a modified T-ball/baseball/ softball program for boys and girls in first grade, baseball for boys in grades two through eight, and softball for girls in grades two through eight. Please note that boys in grades four through eight who will be playing recreation baseball will again be using wood bats. The fee for children in kindergarten and first grade is $55. For players in grades two through eight, the fee is $75. Cash and checks will be accepted. The recreation department does not accept credit cards. The spring baseball/softball season will begin with practices in late March or early April. Games for players in grades two through eight will begin April 21. Kindergarten T-ball will begin April 28. The first grade program will begin on April 24 for the girls, and on April 26 for the boys. The season is expected to end June 9. The recreation department is seeking umpires for the spring program. The Love Fund, established by the Wyckoff Clergy Association in 1999, helps families cope with unusual difficulties. All proceeds from the sale will benefit the Love Fund. On Feb. 10 at 8 p.m., the temple will hold a Shabbat Shira, a special Shabbat service in song. Led by Rabbi Ken Emert, Rabbi Sandy Olshansky, Cantor Ilan Mamber, and Cantor Annelise Ocanto, the service will include both classical and contemporary liturgical choral compositions and Israeli and Sephardic folk songs. A delicious dessert and coffee reception will follow the service. Temple Beth Rishon is holding a membership campaign through June 30. Joshua Marber, MS.Ed will discuss the college selection and application process on Feb. 13. He will cover college visits, applications, the essay, and taking the ACT or SAT.
