More women die of heart disease than all forms of cancer combined. Unfortunately, heart disease is often silent, hidden, and misunderstood. One woman dies from heart disease every minute. Each year, on the first Friday in February, hospitals, small businesses, multinational corporations, news broadcasters, schools, and individuals “Go Red” in support of the American Heart Association’s fight against heart disease in women. Visit Facebook.com/GoRed to review the 13 Wear Red Day Award categories. All are encouraged to record a video or take photos of their “Go Red” efforts and submit them on the Wear Red Day Challenge tab through Feb. 23. Encourage others to vote for you by “liking” your submissions. Winners will be announced for each category on Feb. 25. Military Bridge Night benefit set The Northern Highlands Junior Class of ‘13 will host a Military Bridge fundraiser at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 7 in the Northern Highlands Cafeteria. The event will feature an evening of cards, friends, prize baskets, homemade desserts, and refreshments. Military Bridge is a simple game that can be learned in minutes. Sign up in groups or singly. Tickets are available in advance at $12 each, or $40 for a table of four. Tickets purchased at the door will be $15 each. Tubridy to discuss Irish Renaissance The Irish American Unity Conference, Chapter 5th and 9th CD, will meet at Christ Church, 105 Cottage Place in Ridgewood, on Wednesday, Feb. 8, at 7:30 p.m. Michael Tubridy, a freelance writer with a background in history and library science, will present “Lady Gregory and the Irish Literary Renaissance: The Playwright Who Influenced Yeats, Synge, and O’Casey.” Tubridy has written on Irish subjects and was included in Irish America magazine. Students perform ‘Cabaret’ Students in the Performing Arts Program at Saint Joseph Regional High School will present the Tony- and Academy Award-winning musical “Cabaret” on Feb. 3, 4, 5, 9, 10, and 11. Set in Depression-era Berlin as the Nazis are rising to power, the show depicts nightlife at the seedy Kit Kat Klub. “Cabaret” traces the intertwined stories of American writer Clifford Bradshaw, English singer/dancer Sally Bowles, and the denizens of Berlin, all under the decadently watchful eye of the Klub’s Master of Ceremonies. Visit with ‘Abraham Lincoln’ The Ridgewood Public Library and the Ridgewood Historical Society will welcome “President Abraham Lincoln” to Ridgewood on Sunday, Feb. 5 at 2 p.m. when Robert Costello will portray the president in “A Visit with Abraham Lincoln.” The event will take place in the auditorium of the library, which is located at 125 North Maple Avenue in Ridgewood. Costello will speak about Lincoln’s presidency and the Civil War. From the library, he will travel across town to visit the Schoolhouse Museum and tour the “Civil War Years: At Home and on the Battlefield” exhibit. Costello has portrayed President Lincoln for the past 10 years throughout the tri-state area before audiences of all ages. Adults and children in grades three through 12 are invited to attend. Asperger’s Services offers playgroup West Bergen Center for Children and Youth’s Asperger’s Related Services will offer Friday playgroup workshops for children ages four through seven. Workshops are designed for children who need improvement in play skills with peers. The focus will be on practicing sharing, cooperation, compromising, sportsmanship, and conversation skills.
