McMahon The Borough of Franklin Lakes has received $157,500 in donations from a local business and two charitable foundations for the benefit of the borough’s police department, fire department, ambulance squad, and the Franklin Lakes Town Fair. In a letter to Chief of Police Joseph Seltenrich, Frank Lemma, vice president of private wealth management for JP Morgan Chase Bank, advised that the Aaron and Rachel Meyer Memorial Foundation had approved two grant requests from the borough’s police department and sent two checks to the borough for a total of $130,000. The $60,000 and $70,000 separate donations are intended to cover the cost of the purchase of two unmarked police department vehicles and the purchase of a patrol vehicle fleet video/audio car camera system to be included in all of the police department’s marked vehicles. Last year, the Meyer Foundation made a private donation for the purchase of ballistic vests for the police department. A ballistic vest is a form of personal armor that helps absorb the impact from firearm-fired projectiles and shrapnel from explosions. A $12,500 donation was also received from the Becton Dickinson & Company, a global medical technology company located in the borough. In a letter to Mayor Frank Bivona from Jennifer Farrington, director of social investing for Becton Dickinson, Farrington asked that the $10,000 donation be split between the ambulance squad and the fire department for general operating support, with the remaining $2,500 to be put toward the support of the borough’s annual fair. “BD is proud to continue its support of Franklin Lakes and its civil servants in their efforts to keep residents safe from harm,” Farrington wrote. The company has been making donations to the borough’s fire department and ambulance corps for several years, according to Franklin Lakes Borough Administrator Gregory Hart. A $15,000 private donation was also received from the Matthew Susan Lyons Family Foundation to benefit the Franklin Lakes Volunteer Fire Department. The borough council recently approved resolutions asking the state’s director of the Division of Local Government Services in the Department of Community Affairs to approve the insertion of these items of revenue in the 2012 budget. Approval was required since these revenues were not anticipated at the time the borough’s budget was adopted. Hickey signs with UMass Ramapo High School senior Caitlyn Hickey, flanked by her parents Holly and Michael, signed a National Letter of Intent to play D1 softball on an athletic scholarship at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Hickey will play the middle infield/first base for UMass and was an appealing pick for the UMass softball program due to her ability to play several positions. Hickey has been a versatile player for the Ramapo High School team over her four years as a varsity starter. She pitches and plays second base and shortstop. She has also energized the Ramapo offense as leadoff hitter. Hickey is one of the team captains for the New Jersey Breakers Gold team, an elite team that travels throughout the country during the summer and fall. As a senior, she was selected to play in the All-American TV Game at the Rising Stars Fall Showcase in October. She was also instrumental in the NJ Breakers qualifying to play in the ASA Gold Nationals in Oklahoma City in July. The other schools that were actively recruiting Hickey were Lehigh University, Providence College, Fairfield University, and George Washington University.
