Bale stars in last installment of superhero trilogy
by Dennis Seuling “The Dark Knight Rises” (Warner Home Video) is the final installment in director Christopher Nolan’s “Batman” trilogy. Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) has retired his Batman mask and cape since taking the rap for the heinous deeds of crusader-turned-madman Harvey Dent, making Dent a symbol of hope for the citizens of Gotham City. Wayne has been leading a reclusive life with only his faithful butler, Alfred (Michael Caine), for companionship. The city has been at peace until Bane (Tom Hardy), a muscle-bound villain, rears his head, reveling in the pain and death of those who cross his path. This new threat to Gotham causes Wayne to return in his alter ego of Batman to aid the police in combating the formidable foe. Anne Hathaway plays Selena Kyle, a seductress with a mean high kick; Morgan Freeman reprises his role of Fox, the overseer of Wayne Enterprises; Gary Oldman is back as Commissioner Gordon; Joseph Gordon-Levitt portrays a young police officer; and Marion Cotillard is Miranda, a clean energy philanthropist. The three-disc Blu-ray/DVD combo pack contains over three hours of extras, including a documentary about the Batmobile and a 17-part featurette chronicling how Nolan and his production team devised the concluding chapter of the trilogy. “The Dark Knight Rises” is also available in a single-disc DVD edition and a five-disc Blu-ray set (also containing “Batman Begins” and “The Dark Knight”). “Catch Me if You Can” (Paramount Home Entertain-
