Wyckoff December 5, 2012 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • Page 3 ShopRite application approved 9-0 by planners by John Koster The Wyckoff Planning Board voted 9-0 to permit construction of a 68,000 square foot ShopRite supermarket at the site of the long-defunct A&P. Plans call for a 62,042-square-foot structure to replace the building that currently occupies the site. The 53,500-square-foot building at the corner of Greenwood and Wyckoff Avenues formerly housed an A&P and an adjoining Walgreen’s. The property has been vacant for more than 10 years, leaving the structure and existing 431 parking spaces in a state of disrepair. Inserra Architect’s rendering of the propsed ShopRite building. Supermarkets became the long-term ground lessee of the 7.6-acre site in 2009. ShopRite President and CEO Lawrence Inserra Jr. received accolades for his regular attendance at the meetings and for his dignity and patience. “He’s a better man than I am,” said Wyckoff Planning Board Chairman Richard Bonsignore, with Inserra in the audience. ShopRite counsel James Jawoski was also praised for his professionalism. “We are very excited about moving forward with our plans for ShopRite of Wyckoff and establishing roots within this vibrant township,” Inserra said after the meeting. “We applaud the planning board for their efforts to offer all interested parties a voice in the application process, and we are extremely grateful to them and the residents of Wyckoff for their feedback and support.” Throughout the two-and-a-half years of hearings, Stop & Shop, ShopRite’s competitor, and Boulder Run landowner Brian Hekemian had offered reasons the ShopRite (continued on page 35)
