December 5, 2012 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • Page 27 Wyckoff Wanderings Come to Bethlehem On Saturday, Dec. 8, from 3 to 5 p.m., Heneveld Hall of the Wyckoff Reformed Church in Wyckoff will be transformed into the village of Bethlehem as it was on the night of Jesus’ birth. Children and their families will have an opportunity to grind grain, take part in Bible time crafts and games, and experience the sights and sounds of Judea. Theater Group will present “The King and the Shepherd” at Abundant Life Reformed Church on Friday, Dec. 7 at 7 p.m. and on Saturday, Dec. 8 at 2:30 p.m. In addition to the Christmas musical, there will be holiday music provided by the Hearts of Praise Children’s Choir, and dessert served by the tree. Abundant Life, located at 475 Lafayette Avenue in Wyckoff, is barrierfree. ‘Seussical the Musical’ coming up “Seussical the Musical,” a new, fulllength musical with a story that weaves together Dr. Seuss’ most famous tales and characters in unexpected ways, will be presented Dec. 6 through 9 at the Wyckoff Family YMCA, 691 Wyckoff Avenue in Wyckoff. The Seuss lexicon includes hundreds upon hundreds of wondrous characters, creatures, places, and things. During the course of the evening, some will fall in love, some will have desperate adventures, and some will save the world as they travel from the Jungle of Nool to McEligott’s Pool to Palm Beach. The show will begin at 7 p.m. on Dec. 6 and 7. Performances will be held at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 8. The curtain will rise at 3 p.m. on Dec. 9. Tickets purchased in advance are $20 for adults, $15 for students and seniors, and $12 for children. Nursery school hosts Meet and Greet Grace Nursery School, 555 Russell Avenue in Wyckoff will host a Meet and Greet for the parents of prospective students on Tuesday, Dec. 11. The program will be held from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. The school offers programs for children age two-anda-half to five. Members of the parents’ advisory board, class parents, teachers, and staff will be present to answer questions. Attendees may tour the school and classrooms and learn about the programs offered. Chanukah celebration planned at Beth Rishon Temple Beth Rishon will usher in the eight days of Chanukah on Friday, Dec. 7 at 6 p.m. with a congregational dinner followed by a special Friday night Shabbat service starting at 7 p.m. Holiday music will be performed by Cantors Ilan Mamber and Jenna Daniels along with the Kol Rishon adult choir, the Zemer Rishon teen choir, and special guest musicians the Strauss/ Warschauer Duo. After the service, the Strauss/Warschauer Duo will perform a concert of songs and instrumental music drawn from klezmer, Yiddish, Hasidic, and liturgical music and culture. An Oneg Shabbat (desserts) will conclude the evening. The cost for dinner is $15 per adult, $7 per child under age 13, or $36 per family; reservations are required. Wyckoff Town Hall Menorah Lighting announced The Wyckoff Town Hall Menorah Lighting and Chanukah Celebration will be held on Saturday, Dec. 8 at 6:30 p.m. Wyckoff Mayor Chris DePhillips and local officials will be on hand to join in the ceremony and festivities, which include entertainment, hot Chanukah refreshments, John J. McCarthy of Wyckoff, formerly of Mahwah, Dumont, and Old Tappan, has been chosen as a member of the Electoral College, which officially elects the United States President as provided by the Constitution. As a result of the Nov. 6 election, President Barack Obama will receive New Jersey’s 14 votes when the Electoral College convenes on Dec. 17. The state receives one vote for each U.S. Senator and member of the House of Representatives. McCarthy, long active in governmental affairs, was recommended to the state party by Bergen County Democratic Chairman Lou Stelatto. He was nominated by the Democratic State Committee at its meeting in September. He is a former secretary of the New Jersey Senate, treasurer of the Bergen County Utilities Authority, and a past Bergen County man named to Electoral College commissioner of economic development. He was also a candidate for the New Jersey Senate. Holding many positions in the Democratic Party, he is a former member of the state committee, and district and municipal chairman. He has been a delegate to national conventions and President Jimmy Carter’s Bergen County Campaign Chairman in 1976. His family is also involved in public service. His wife Bernadette Callahan McCarthy is a former deputy clerk of the General Assembly and a former district chairperson. His two daughters held positions in Bergen County, and his son has twice been a candidate for the assembly. His son-in-law is a municipal judge, his granddaughter was clerk to the Board of Freeholders, and his grandson is an aide to a freeholder. glow giveaways, and a special contest. Santa comes to Wyckoff The Wyckoff Chamber of Commerce’s Santa Comes to Wyckoff and Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony will be held Friday, Dec. 7. (Rain date: Dec. 10.)
