Robert W. Kreger of Wyckoff died Aug. 18. He was 79. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was a truck driver for Exxon Corp. in Linden for more than 30 years. He was a member of the Wyckoff Seniors, the Million Mile Club at Exxon, and the Salt Water Anglers of Bergen County. He is survived by his son Glen A. Kreger and Patricia Hultgren of Wyckoff. He was predeceased by his wife Dawn (nee Honeychurch), and his son John Kreger. Arrangements were made by Vander Plaat Funeral Home in Wyckoff. Memorial donations may be made to the Paramus Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), P.O. Box 38, Glen Rock, NJ 07452-0038. Fred John Laux of Jupiter, Florida and Saddle River, died Aug. 16. He was 77. He was a graduate of Sewanhaka High School where he was awarded the prestigious Scholar-Athlete Award, and earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Yale University. Before retiring in 1995, he was the executive vice president of human resources at Philip Morris, USA. He was a member of the Ridgewood Country Club and a parishioner of Saint Gabriel’s Church in Saddle River. He is survived by his wife JoAnn Rogers Laux, his children George Laux, Peter Laux, Cindy Laux, Cheryl Smith, Jacqueline Laux, and Jeannine Laux, and five grandchildren. Joseph Marangi of Glen Rock, formerly of Ridgewood, died Aug. 16. He was 78. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He graduated from Virginia Military Institute in 1956. He was a partner of Ralph Marangi & Company in Carlstadt for more than 30 years. He is survived by his wife Elsie (nee Scheffler), his daughters Lisa Marie Marangi of Ridgewood and Michele M. Ring of Wyckoff, six grandchildren, and his sister Marie Raso of Upper Saddle River. Arrangements were made by Vander Plaat Funeral Home in Wyckoff. Melchiorre, nee Doria, of Wyckoff, formerly of Paterson, Hawthorne, and Hackensack, died Aug. 22. She was 91. She had worked as a seamstress for Barbizon in the 1940s before becoming a homemaker. She is survived by her children Ralph Melchiorre of Cedar Knolls, Marlene Dey of Lake Hiawatha, and Philip Melchiorre of River Vale, and three grandchildren. Louis James Pozza of Mahwah, formerly of Manalapan, died Aug. 15. He was 89. Before retiring, he worked as a plant supervisor for Robinson, Lewis & Rubin Inc. in Brooklyn, New York. He was a member of the VFW Post 4374 in Freehold, and a parishioner of the Church of the Annunciation in Paramus. He is survived by his son Gordon Pozza and his daughter-in-law Gladys of Mahwah, and his grandchildren Michael and Sharlene Pozza. He was predeceased by wife Vivian (nee DiMartini), and his daughter Janice Pozza. Arrangements were made by Vander Plaat Memorial Home in Paramus. She was 100. She was a graduate of Westwood High School and began her career in Manhattan as a secretary in the insurance field. Later she worked from home and eventually became secretary for her church, where she worked and volunteered until age 96. She was a member of the Old Paramus Church in Ridgewood. She was the founder of her Annual Widows Luncheon Group. She is survived by her sister-in-law Aimee A. Ranzau of North Carolina; nieces Aimee Ranzau Blacker of North Carolina, Margaret Ranzau Callaghan of Pennsylvania, Barbara Radcliff Congelosi of Arizona, and Barbara Ranzau Taylor of Vermont; nephew George Ranzau of Arizona; and cousins Frank Jordon of Nevada, Gail Jordon of Maryland, Thomas Jordon of Thailand, George E. Ranzau of New Jersey, and many great-nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband Howell Radcliff. She leaves behind her good friends Millie and Leo Chlebnikow, Lynn and Bob Mackall, Joan and Robert Pawlowski. Arrangements were made by C.C. Van Emburgh Funeral Home in Ridgewood. Stark, nee Ayala, of Wheat Ridge, Colorado, formerly of Waldwick and Saddle River, died Aug. 8. She was 94. She is survived by her children Richard Stark, Patricia Palmer, Priscilla Irwin, Brian Stark, and Deborah Ackerson, 29 grand and great-grandchildren, and her sisters Elizabeth (Betty) Pepper of California, and Anna Williams of Florida. Wyckoff Wanderings
Solid waste collection update Township residents are reminded there will be no garbage or recycling collections on Labor Day: Monday, Sept. 3. Garbage collections will continue on the second regularly scheduled pickup day of the week, which is Thursday, Sept. 6. There will be a special recycling pickup for Districts 2 and 6 on Wednesday, Sept. 5. All other pickup schedules will remain the same. Story time registration set In-person registration for the Wyckoff Public Library’s story times will begin Sept. 5 in the Rizzo Children’s Room. Rhyme Time for children ages birth to 30 months and their caregivers will be held at 10 a.m. on Sept. 10, 17, and 24, and Oct. 1 and 8; or on Sept. 12, 19, and 26, and Oct. 3 and 10. Children 30 months through three years and their caregivers may join Toddler Tales on Sept. 14, 21, and 28, and Oct. 5 and 12 at either 10 or 11 a.m. Storytime Fun for Fours and Fives is for children to attend independently. Participants may choose one of two sessions. One session will be held at 4 p.m. on Sept. 11, 18, and 25, and Oct. 2 and 9. The other session will be held at 10 a.m. on Sept. 13, 20, and 27, and Oct. 4 and 11. The library is located at 200 Woodland Avenue. Tennis instruction offered The Wyckoff Recreation and Parks Department will sponsor a Fall Tennis Learning Program for Wyckoff residents who range from kindergarteners through adults. Two clinics will be offered: Fridays from 4 to 7 p.m. beginning Sept. 21, and Saturdays from noon to 4 p.m. beginning Sept. 22. Residents may sign up for one or both of the sessions depending on space availability. The one-hour classes will run for five sessions at the (continued on page 23)
