Aspiring fashion designers wanted This fall, Midland Park Recreation will present Fashion Design Stars, a program for students in grades one through six. Designers will meet on Thursdays from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Sessions will be held Sept. 13, 20, and 27, Oct. 4, 11, 19, and 25, and Nov. 1. The fee is $124 per student. LAN hosts Blood Drive On Aug. 28, LAN Associates in Midland Park will host a Blood Drive in conjunction with Community Blood Services. All donors receive a complimentary cholesterol screening with every blood donation. American Legion resumes meeting The Hugh E. Connelly American Legion, Memorial Post 130 in Midland Park will meet on Thursday, Sept. 6. Meetings begin at 7:30 p.m. and are held in the first floor meeting room at the hall located at 28 Faner Road. The group meets on the first Thursday of the month. New members are welcome. Soccer program seeks referees The Midland Park Soccer Association is seeking referees for its fall in-town recreation program. Applicants must be in eighth grade or older and must obtain a Rutgers S.A.F.E.T.Y. Card and complete a free online concussion awareness training course. Games are played on Saturdays from September through November. Anyone interested may call Heather at (201) 445-4532. Volunteers sought for Softball Benefit The Midland Park Women’s Alumni Softball players will hold a fundraiser to benefit Elaine Mejury Mazurek on Saturday, Sept. 15. The event will be held at 3 p.m. on the Midland Park Recreation Softball Field. Mazurek, who grew up in Midland Park, is battling breast cancer. From elementary school through high school, Mazurek was a member of Midland Park softball, soccer, and basketball teams. She continued to play throughout college. The young athlete is now married and has a two-year old daughter, Hazel. Those who are interested in playing in the softball game may contact Robert Schiffer at 72 East Center Street, Mid-

Camp announces ‘Lost and Found’ Midland Park Recreation has accumulated many items left behind by campers during this summer’s program. The lost and found box, located at the DePhillips Center at 50 Dairy Street, includes towels, lunchboxes, water bottles, etc. Parents and campers are encouraged to stop by and reclaim their property. The DePhillips Center will be open to the public Monday through Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m. Senior Tap Groups sought Senior tap dancing groups are invited to participate in the Annual Tap Show hosted by the Northwest Bergen Regional Senior Center on Oct 23. Senior dancers are welcome to “strut their stuff” at the George Frey Center for Arts and Recreation, 10-10 20th Street in Fair Lawn. Tap groups that are interested in performing may call the center at (201) 445-5690. The senior center is offering free tap dancing lessons for beginners on Fridays at 9 a.m. Led by Jean Cunningham, the one-hour class is for seniors who have little or no tap dancing experience. The center recommends trying a class before purchasing tap shoes. For more information, call the center. The Northwest Bergen Regional Senior Center, located at 46-50 Center Street in Midland Park, is open to all Bergen County area senior citizens age 60+.
