Kindergarten Meet & Greet announced The Sixth Annual Franklin Lakes Newcomers and Neighbors Club’s Kindergarten Meet and Greet, an event for children who will begin kindergarten in September, will be held Aug. 21. Participants will meet at the Pulis Avenue Recreational Field Playground from 10 to 11:30 a.m. (Rain date: Aug. 22.) This event is open to club members and non-members. The program will be held on Tuesdays or Thursdays at the VFW Hall at Franklin and Pulis avenues in Franklin Lakes. The Tuesday workshop will begin Sept. 18, and the Thursday workshop will begin Sept. 20. Classes meet from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Tuition is $104. New students will receive a 19-page syllabus. Register for preschool program Barnert Temple Preschool and Family Center is accepting applications for “Me & My Sprout Shabbat” class, a Shabbat social experience for toddlers and their parents, grandparents, or caregivers. This class, available to all children ages 12 months through 24 months, meets on Fridays from 9 to 10:15 a.m. Classes will begin Sept. 14 and run through May 2013. The cost is $650 for the year. Vendors sought for holiday boutique The Franklin Lakes Branch of the Valley Hospital Auxiliary is seeking vendors for its Fifth Annual Pre-holiday Brunch & Boutique Shopping Extravaganza set for Nov. 14. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Indian Trail Club, 830 Franklin Lake Road in Franklin Lakes. This brunch and boutique, which in the past has been attended by nearly 200 people, will help support the auxiliary’s $1.5 million pledge for expansion of The Valley

The Franklin Lakes War Eagles Summer Travel Team recently won the U14 Bergen County Classic Girls Summer Softball League to become the 2012 champions. Franklin Lakes U14 travel team lost its first three league games and then won 12 straight including coming back from a 6-1 deficit in the last two innings of the championship game to win 9-7 and earn Franklin Lakes its first league championship. Children’s programs available The Franklin Lakes Public Library, located at 470 DeKorte Drive, will host a variety of programs for children in August. Registration is under way. On Aug. 8, children in grade three and up may attend a drop in movie program featuring “The Invention of Hugo Cabret” at 2 p.m. The film is rated PG and runs for 152 minutes. The Lego Club will meet at 11 a.m. on Aug. 9, 16, and 23. Children in grades one through five are invited to bring their Legos to the library and create an original structure. Kurt Gallagher will entertain families and children of
all ages on Aug. 15 at 3 p.m. Gallagher will perform his imaginative, interactive program that will have the audience laughing and dancing along. This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Franklin Lakes Library. Children in grades five and up are welcome to help create frightful figures for the library’s Halloween Fright Night set for Oct. 16. On three afternoons, Aug. 9, 16 and 23, participants will paint, color, cut set designs, and audition for acting roles for the annual event. The backstage program will meet from 2:30 to 4 p.m. The Reading Club will wrap up with two programs. For club members in pre-school through second grade, Mr. Twister will delight and amaze as he transforms ordinary balloons into realistic sculptures on Aug. 21 at 3 p.m. Every child will go home with one of his extraordinary balloon creatures. Lasermania Spectacular! by Prismatic Magic will close this summer’s program for members in grade three and up. Set for Aug. 22 at 7 p.m., Lasermania is a collection of current rock/pop music with dramatic laser animation.

(continued from page 5) explained the larger kitchen will allow for the expansion of menu offerings, including daily specials, and of the catering operation. “We’ll continue with our traditional menu but will be able to offer a greater selection and variety,” said her husband, Rob. “But not so extensive; we want to concentrate on quality,” he added. A separate espresso/cappuccino room is being set up to make delicious coffees standard offerings, and a “carrettino” will be brought in later on to offer gelato, he said. And of course, next spring, outdoor dining will be incorporated. The additional five-feet of space taken from Pay/Half, Mannino said, made possible a separate side access for home or office deliveries and a back door for merchandise deliveries. “It will be the most beautiful pizzeria/Italian restaurant in the area,” Mannino added proudly.
