John Anthony Broomhead of Wyckoff, formerly of Glen Rock and North Haledon, died July 29. He was 96. He was a U.S. veteran of WWII. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Pace University and began a long career in finance that culminated as director, executive vice president, and chief financial officer serving on the board of directors of Saatchi and Saatchi, New York. He was a parishioner of Saint Catherine’s R.C. Church in Glen Rock. He is survived by his wife Florence Marie (nee Petersen), his children Jean Carnevale of Allendale, Dr. Paul Broomhead of Thomaston, Connecticut, and Bonnie Siebert of Hawthorne, 10 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his grandson Michael. Arrangements were made by Browning Forshay Funeral Home in Hawthorne. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Veteran’s of Foreign Wars. Dean A. Gaver of Roseland, formerly Ridgewood, died July 30. He was 68. He was a graduate of Yale University, where he was a member and contributor to its alumni association. He earned a J.D. from Harvard Law School. He was a corporate attorney with Greenbaum, Rowe, Smith & Davis, LLP in Iselin and previously was with Hannoch, Weisman, Stern & Besser in Newark for 30 years. He is survived by his children Torrey, Megan, and Chad Gaver, his brother Charles “Chip” Gaver, and his companion Linda Magnano. He was predeceased by his brother James “Jimmy” Gaver. Mildred Greta Kutz, nee Johnson, of Plano, Texas, formerly of Ridgewood, died July 30. She was 87. She was a leader for Cub Scouts and Brownies, and a PTA volunteer. She worked in the office of Suburban Driver Service and later for Carteret Savings. She had been a member of the Paramus Mall Walkers’ Club. She is survived by her son Ron Kutz of Plano, Texas and Nancy Cornette of Columbia, South Carolina, three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and her sister Florence Connerton of Rego Park, New York. Charles W. Maeder III of Midland Park died July 27. He was 68. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a self-employed certified public accountant for Maeder Management in Midland Park since 1997. He was a member of the Cherokee Hunting Preserve in Bethel, New York, and Ducks Unlimited. She was 82. Before retiring, she was a registered nurse with the office of Dr. Asimakopulous in Wyckoff for many years. She was a parishioner of Saint Margaret R.C. Church in Wilmington, New York. She is survived by her children John Ott, Robert Ott, and Andrew Ott, seven grandchildren, and her sisters Florence Matuszewski and Joan Messemer. He had been a financial advisor at UBS for over 50 years. He was on the board of directors of the International Motor Racing Research Center in Watkins Glen, New York, and served on the board of the Southern Vermont Art Center. Church in Ho-Ho-Kus and the Thunderbirds Pilot Association in Phoenix, Arizona. She is survived by her children Virginia Schlesinger of Franklin Lakes, William L. Strobel Jr. of West New York, and Richard A. Strobel of Carolina Shores, North Carolina, seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and her sister Helen Mulligan of Toms River. He was born in Buga La Grande, Colombia and moved to the United States in the early 1960s. For 40 years, he was a family-health practitioner serving the community of Ridgewood. In addition to his practice, he was an attending doctor at Valley Hospital and served for more than 30 years as the Ridgewood Public School District’s physician. He is survived by his wife Jeannette; his daughters Debra Morgan of Wyckoff, Theresa Velez of Hartford, Connecticut, Christina Uebelhoer of Buffalo, New York, Regina Hilling of Sussex, and Sharon Velez of Denver, Colorado; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She attended the Newport News Public Schools, earned a bachelor’s degree from Norfolk State University in 1969 and an MBA from Long Island University in 1986. She was employed as a business teacher at Glen Rock High School for over 34 years. She is survived by her husband Reginald R. Walker, her children Desiree Walker and Stephen Walker, her siblings Francis Manley, James Sellers, Orlando Sellers, Reverend Clarence Sellers Sr., and Ronnie Sellers.
