She had been an executive secretary for a law firm for many years. She was predeceased by her husband Frank Brookhart, and her parents Otto and Camilla (nee Hartwig) Huebner. Charles M. “Charlie” Cole of Wyckoff, formerly of Lake Charles, Louisiana, died July 21. He was 81. He was a 1949 graduate of Ridley College in Ontario, Canada and a 1953 graduate of Hamilton College in Clinton, New York. Before retiring in 1992, he was the purchasing manager for Verizon in New York City after 37 years of service. He was a member of Wyckoff Protection Fire Company #1 for more than 56 years. He served in many line officer positions and as deputy chief. He also served as president of the Protection Fire Co. #1 Association, and in many other capacities with that association. He was the operations director for the NORCON desk (Northwest Bergen Regional Mutual Aid Association). He was named Wyckoff Fireman of the Year in 1976, 2007, and 2011. He served on the Wyckoff Planning Board for many years, and was a member of the Wyckoff Township Committee from 1981 to 1984. In 1983, he served as mayor of Wyckoff. He is survived by his wife Alice G. (nee Lawton), his children Mark, Katie Burke, Bob, and Matt, and nine grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother William C. She is survived by her husband James A. Etterbeek, her children David H. Etterbeek, Susan B. Soderlind, Karen A. VanderHorn, and Debra L. Dyer, nine grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Muriel G. McTiernan, nee Crabtree, of Saddle River, formerly of Nutley, died July 21. She was 87. Before retiring, she had been a secretary with Met Life in Newark. She is survived by her children Gale Farewell of Nutley and Eugene R. McTiernan of Westwood, and four grandchildren. He was the president and commissioner of the New Jersey Real Estate Commission, where he was appointed by then Governor James McGreevey in 2003. He was reappointed in 2007 by Governor Jon Corzine and by Governor Christopher Christie in 2009. He had served as a United States Chapter 11 and Chapter 7 trustee for the United States Bankruptcy Court since 1997. The United States Department of Justice appointed him a trustee to protect and liquidate assets for the benefit of creditors. He served as president of Impact Realty Associates, Inc. and Impact Development Company, Inc., both of which he founded in 1994. He was founder and chairman of IMPACT PAC, a political action committee. He served on the board of trustees of the Foundation of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, and was an executive board member for the Gift of Life America Fund. He was a member of the New Jersey Association of Realtors and the Eastern Bergen County Board of Realtors. He received an Award of Appreciation and Gratitude from the Hackensack Police PBA Local 9 and was honored as the Business Person of the Year by the State Troopers Coalition, National Police Defense Foundation and NPDF Executive Board. He is survived by his daughter Tiffany Pimienta, his brother John Pimienta, his sister-in-law Judy, and nieces Sara Hamilton and Jaclyn, Jasmin, and Julia Pimienta. Church in Wyckoff and served as a Eucharistic minister and as a community volunteer. She is survived by her children Don Surdoval and Jack Surdoval, both of Sparta; Lisa Surdoval of Wyckoff; and Cathy Surdoval and Brian Surdoval, both of Ramsey; seven grandchildren; her sister Ann Murphy of Oakland; and her cousin Marty “Joe” Rowland of Point Lookout, New York. Before retiring, she had been a clerk for Steuben Glass in New York City for many years. She was a bingo and trivia champion at her residence at Longview Assisted Living. She is survived by her grandchildren Robin Nissenfeld, Karen Gruber, Nancy Cozzens and Geoffrey Morris, her daughter-in-law Carol Nielsen, and 11 great-grandchildren. He was 90. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. Before retiring, he was a printing pressman for the Wyckoff News. He was a member of the Wyckoff Reformed Church, where he was an usher for many years. He was a member of Wyckoff Protection Fire Company #1 for more than 55 years, where he served as the department’s financial secretary. In 2005, he was grand marshal of the Wyckoff Memorial Day Parade. He is survived by his wife Ruth S. (nee Spear), his children Robin Handzo of Toms River and Scott Todd of Lake Luzerne, New York, six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and his brother Richard Todd.
