August 1, 2012 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • Page 17 Jacobsen volunteers at Arlington National Cemetery Local businessman Glenn Jacobsen, founder and owner of Jacobsen Landscape Design and Construction in Midland Park and a member of PLANET -- the Professional Landcare Network, participated in the July Renewal & Remembrance at Arlington National Cemetery. Jacobsen was among hundreds of landscape and lawn care professionals from across the nation who brought their crews to Arlington National Cemetery to spend the day mulching, upgrading sprinklers, cabling and installing lightning protection for trees, pruning, liming 150 acres, planting, and aerating the soil. “It was truly a special opportunity to help beautify and preserve one of the most sacred and important places in our country,” Jacobsen said. “I was honored and humbled to be a part of it and contribute what I could to honoring the men and women who gave their lives for our country. I consider it a privilege to be able to lend my time to such a worthwhile project.” The day began at Arlington National Cemetery with a ceremony featuring a joint color guard and speaker presen- Glenn Jacobsen tations to dedicate the day of work and helping to maintain these hallowed grounds. PLANET partnered with the Irrigation Association, and the event’s platinum sponsor was New Holland Construction. The Professional Landcare Network is an association representing more than 100,000 lawn and landscape professionals in the United States and Canada. PLANET member firms provide a wide range of landscape, lawn care, tree care, irrigation and water management, and interior plantscape services, including consultation, design, installation, and maintenance. Area families are invited to enjoy food and fun at the Midland Park Christian Reformed Community Church’s Clixes Hot Dog Day on Saturday, Aug. 18 from 3 to 7 p.m. The menu will include hot dogs topped with the locallyacclaimed “Clixes Sauce” from the much beloved Clixes Hot Dog Store, and soda and free popcorn. Attendees will also be able to make your own sundaes. Children may enjoy free face-painting and other activities. Military vehicles will be on display as well as classic cars. Church to host Clixes Hot Dog Day The festivities will be located in the rear of the Midland Park Christian Reformed Church at 183 Godwin Avenue in Midland Park. Midland Park CRC, a family-friendly church, offers programs for adults and children. Recent events include Vacation Bible School, a musical production of the story of Noah’s Ark, youth mission trip to Ghana, and community prayer walks, among many other activities.
