Page 2 THE VILLADOM TIMES I, II, III & IV • April 25, 2012 Villadom Happenings Old prescription drugs wanted The Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day will be held Saturday, April 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event provides the public with the opportunity to rid their homes of unused, unwanted, or expired medications. The following police departments are participating: the Allendale, 290 Franklin Turnpike; Ridgewood, 131 North Maple Avenue, second floor; Upper Saddle River, 368 West Saddle River Road; Wyckoff, 1 Scott Plaza; Franklin Lakes Police Department, DeKorte Drive; and Ramsey, 25 North Central Avenue. NJBG Plant Sale coming soon The New Jersey Botanical Garden’s Annual Plant Sale will be held May 5 and 6 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The sale will feature an array of lush perennials, colorful annuals, robust hanging baskets, tasty vegetables and herbs, and dwarf and full-size trees and shrubs. Admission and parking will be free of charge. The Plant Sale will be held in and around the Carriage House Visitor Center on the grounds of the New Jersey State Botanical Garden in Ringwood State Park. Each year, visitors flock to this sale not only for the great plants, but also to see the garden’s formal plantings, extensive historical statuary, and world-class collection of mature tree specimens. On May 4, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., NJBG members will be treated to the Plant Sale Preview Party, an exclusive members-only reception during which many of the choicest plants are traditionally sold. Non-member visitors to the Friday night preview may participate by becoming members at the gate. Master Gardeners and volunteers from the NJBG/Skylands Association, a member-supported non-profit organization that works with the state to preserve and protect the garden and its structures, will be on hand to answer questions and help shoppers make selections. Membership in NJBG/Skylands Association includes admission and benefits at numerous gardens and arboreta, discounts in the gift shop, use of the reference library, volunteer opportunities, a quarterly journal, guest passes for Manor House tours, and more. Memberships are $30 per year for individuals, $50 for families/dual members, and $20 for seniors/students. NJBG/Skylands is located on Morris Road in Ringwood, New Jersey. The New Jersey State Botanical Garden at Skylands, which appears on both the State and National Registers of Historic Places, is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day of the year. Admission to the garden is always free. Summer Day Camp welcomes area residents The Ridgewood Summer Day Camp program has openings for non-residents. Camp will open on Tuesday, June 26 and run for six weeks through Friday, Aug. 3. Children entering grades one through six will enjoy arts and crafts, organized games, swimming, special events, and optional trips. Camp will be held at The Stable, Graydon Pool, Maple Park, Veteran’s Field, and Leuning Park from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The day camp registration fee for village children is $500 per child and includes two camp T-shirts and optional bus transportation. The non-resident cost is $675. Trips are optional with limited space; prices vary and registration will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. All campers must possess a 2012 Graydon Pool membership badge. Caregiver Support Group available Christian Health Care Adult Day Services at Christian Health Care Center in Wyckoff will host a Caregiver Support Group at noon on May 1. The meeting is open to the public and no reservations are necessary. The meeting will be held at CHCC, 301 Sicomac Avenue in Wyckoff. Follow signs for Building 1, human resources. The meeting will be held in the Building 1 all-purpose room. The meeting provides support to people caring for a loved one suffering from dementia and other medical problems relating to aging. The meetings are facilitated by Kerri Sherer, LSW. Information about area social services will be available, and attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions, vent their feelings, and share knowledge with others who are facing similar issues. Chamber offers scholarship Applications are now available for the annual Mahwah Regional Chamber of Commerce scholarship. The Chamber offers a $1,500 scholarship to students who currently attend, or plan to enter, Ramapo College in the 2012-13 school year. The scholarship is open to Chamber members and their children, employees of Chamber members and their children, and Chamber employees and their children.
