The event will begin at 9 a.m. The Y will host representatives from veterans’ service organizations, including the NJ DMAVA, Lyons VA Hospital, Secaucus Vet Center, and the Bergen County Division of Veterans Services. The keynote speaker will be Steve Alpert, a painter and author of the newly-published “Worth Fighting For.” The event is open to all area veterans free of charge. The fee for guests is $5. Rotary holds meet and greet The Rotary Club of Wyckoff Midland-Park will host a Meet and Greet on Thursday, April 26, at 7 p.m. at The Brick House, 179 Godwin Avenue in Wyckoff. Complimentary beer, wine, soda, and hors d’oeuvres will be served. All area residents are invited. Shugarman to address Sierra Club In honor of Earth Day, the North Jersey Group of the Sierra Club will present Harriet Shugarman of the Climate Reality Project. The program will be held Thursday, April 19 at 7:30 p.m. at the Franklin Lakes Public Library, 470 DeKorte Drive in Franklin Lakes. Shugarman, a Wyckoff resident, will bring facts about the climate crisis into the mainstream and engage the public in a conversation about solutions. The Climate Reality Project helps citizens around the world discover the truth and take meaningful steps to bring about change. Since her training in 2007, Shugarman has spoken with thousands of people across the United States and Canada on climate change. In late 2009, she launched www.climatemama.com. On April 16, the club will host an informal gathering from 7 to 9 p.m. at Panera Bread on Route 4 West in Paramus. Prospective members are welcome. RSVP to jkashwick@optonline.net. ‘Tea and Orchids’ coming to Lambert Castle From April 19 through 22, a traditional Victorian tea will be served at Lambert Castle at noon and 3 p.m. daily. The public is invited to attend this annual event. This year’s program will feature a display of orchids, and the program, “The Lure and Lore of Orchids,” which will be presented by the North Jersey Orchid Society. Tea and Orchids at Lambert Castle will be held in the historic period rooms of the 1893 home of Catholina Lambert, who was then Paterson’s most prominent silk manufacturer. Guests will enjoy a formal tea amidst the paintings, sculptures, and historic furnishings of the museum. The tea is reminiscent of the elaborate high teas which were fashionable during the Victorian era. In addition to selections of fine aromatic teas, guests will enjoy traditional scones, sweets, and savories catered by High Society Tea House of Wayne. Reservations include admission to the museum and current exhibits, including “A Presidential Year: Reflection of Past Presidents,” and a selection of ornate souvenir spoons from the Bertha Schaefer Koempel Spoon Collection, the world’s largest collection of spoons. Following the tea, guests will be able to shop for live orchids, tea accessories, and unique gifts in the museum shop. Admission to the event is $35 per person, with reserved seating only. Lambert Castle Museum is located at 3 Valley Road in Paterson. Graydon opens membership to area residents The Village of Ridgewood has announced that membership to Graydon Pool will be open to area families for the 13week 2012 season. The cost is $175 for non-resident adults and $155 for children, ages two through 15. To purchase badges, visit www.ridgewoodnj.net/communitypass. In-person registration assistance will be available May 12 and 19, and May 28 from 10 a.m. to noon, at the Graydon Pool Badge Office, 259 North Maple Avenue in Ridgewood. Badges may be purchased daily throughout the operating season. Opening weekend will be June 2. Pool amenities include “The Wibit,” a modular play system aquatrack providing added physical fitness, a lending library of books, volleyball, basketball, ping-pong tables, shuffleboard, four-squares, hopscotch, a shaded playground, water features, shade kites, Adirondack chairs, a picnic area, a sheltered pavilion, charcoal grills, and The Water’s Edge Café. Special programs include “Storytime under a Tree” for the little ones, swim instruction for children and adults, and an adaptive swim class.
