Iain recently welcomed a stylist and a colorist, and Sal Caramana of Franklin Lakes provides discreet assistance to clients who need information about hairpieces and wigs. While some faces are new, former owner and colorist Jim Minton remains on staff. In addition, Iain has added several new services, while continuing to provide the latest in men’s and women’s hair cuts and color, smoothing keratin treatments, hair extensions and waxing. Iain is continuously updating the salon, and is currently adding new sinks and chairs for clients’ comfort. Yet he has retained the salon’s cozy feel that is enhanced by fresh flowers, coffee, tea, and bagels. Located at 208 Godwin Avenue in Midland Park, Nelund Minton combines the benefits of expertly-trained staff and a convenient, hometown Owner Iain Foster location. “We keep ourselves educated about the newest trends and techniques,” Iain says. “Our hairdressers regularly attend workshops and trade shows on the latest developments in our field.” Iain honed his hairdressing skills in Amsterdam, where he worked for 15 years. He later worked at salons in Fort Lee and Hackensack before joining Nelund Minton a decade ago. He has made the salon as “green” as possible by using products that are environmentally friendly and non-toxic. Product lines include L’Oreal, Joico and Kevin Murphy; and Goldwell, Tocco, and Schwarzkopf color. O Individuality at the right price at Rubin Opticians LAN project spotlight: Residential design in Newport, Vermont hile meeting a client’s expectations is second-nature to architects, the task may be especially daunting when the clients are one’s own parents. LAN Associates Engineering, Planning, Architecture, Surveying, Inc. (LAN) architect Matthew Milnamow, AIA, LEED® AP BD+C rose to the challenge when his parents sought his professional advice for the design of their retirement home on a 10acre site overlooking Lake Memphremagoue in Newport, Vermont. Design and construction were implemented using a phased master plan approach that extended over five years. In 2006, Phase One started with the construction of a twocar garage and second floor living space. The recent completion of Phase Two has added 3,800 sq. ft. to become the owners’ primary living space. The built project fused traditional materials, splashes of luxury and familiar design elements to form a sensible aesthetic that functions as well as it looks. Energy efficiency, salvaged building materials and life cycle costing were integral to the long-term affordability of the project. In fact, the Phase One guest cottage meets the stringent guidelines regulated by Efficiency Vermont to become a “Vermont Energy Star Home”. Including property acquisition, the 5,600 sq. ft., four-bedroom home was surprisingly affordable at $125/sf. This residence has already been featured on the 2012 cover of Harvey’s Building Product Catalog and will be published in the next annual Vermont Magazine.
